LG's smartphone launch strategy has looked confusing lately. We say this because their calls often do not follow a consistent pattern or launch cycle that allows us to send complaints.
We say this because the new V60 is a pretty good phone. We love it for important features such as its personality and differentiation from its Samsung Samsung S20 or OnePlus 8 Pro partners. These calls point to different end goals.
If we accept that the V60 is a unique and beautiful tool, then on paper, other phones might be better. The bottom line is that the V60 allows you to do things you can't find elsewhere.
V60 battery life, intelligent camera controls, and audio in cable mode are some of the features where the LG terminal surpasses the other bystander product suggestion.
It is a terminal you need to have in your hands to appreciate all its benefits, on the basis that it is not a smartphone to be used by most users. I have target specific.
The acquisition of a dual screen (good in our opinion) is proof of this. Although some question its effectiveness, there is no doubt that it allows you to use it when you really need it, or to perform without it if need be.
Use and manage
After the arrival of the V50, LG seems to have learned from its mistakes by optimizing their design when needed. The frames are significantly reduced and the edges have attractive aluminum ends.
Physically, a few exits associated with a set of its front cameras are noticeable, something the V40 had but resolved with the V50. His return is justified when the quality of the cameras improved as we managed.
Obviously this is a great phone in size. It has a 6.8-inch OLED screen that is mounted on a wider and thicker chassis than the Galaxy S20 Ultra, though oleophobic coating works just fine.
This enables the V60 phone to be used with both hands even when using it without a second display. The small frame extends to the edges of the oversized panel with a small circular notch to support the front camera. selfie.
The build standard is first rate on the V60, which should be included to comply with IP68 certification and the official MIL-STD-810G separation, which strengthens its capabilities when operating externally.
As has always been the case with LG devices, the haptic response to this model is a great deal, in addition to being charged with the fast 25W Quick 4 mode, in addition to supporting wireless charging of the lens.
Duplicate screen
If it turns out that most mobiles aren't a problem for you, you'll see that the V60 has one of the best OLED panels that LG has installed so far in the smartphone.
If you look closely at the details, you'll notice that the screen doesn't have a 90 Hz or 120 Hz refresh rate or anything similar. In a sense, LG is stuck at 60 Hz but, of course, it looks pretty good.
We have used Samsung & # 39; s OnePlus 7T Pro and S20 Ultra and must admit that they are amazing screens due to their high refresh rates. But LG here is well-balanced in its rendering of color and sharpness, even though it reaches 1080p.
We were also able to test the V60 with its Dual Screen package, which is different in the same cases for the V50 and G8X. It makes a very large smartphone that is already too big to carry in your pocket.
But it is a price that you have to be willing to pay to be able to operate in a comfortable and flexible manner. To charge the phone when it's in position, LG includes an electric adapter that should lose both power.
With this addition, we add the same 1080p screen that doubles the size of the V60 screen and have a false notch to keep the display content intact.
It's not a metaphor for wrapping phones like the Golden Fold or the Motorola Razr. The core of the V60 is to provide the app with a dual screen and not to get a larger screen, as followed by the models mentioned here.
This way, although you can see other apps using both hinge screens in between, this is not the goal. LG intends multitasking to run different programs in unison, each with its own open panel.
Two V60 displays allow two vertical work systems to run side by side. It works well, with the addition that the USB-C housing connector connects to the phone to enable the second display.
LG appeared with the development of apps under Android until you opened Gmail on fullscreen it might look bad and cut. However, when you switch to panoramic editing mode, the screen below becomes a mini keyboard with a full view screen.
There are still plenty of applications that need continuous improvement and no such features to use, but for what you're used to, the solution works well.
For example, we've used a double screen in cases where you have to read articles in one of them through a browser, while in another you manage a social network. It is an exciting experience that will allow you to be more productive.
Another cheat on your sleeve is LG keeps with the V60 that it offers style support, although LG does not say anything to do with phone advertising. Both of these mirrors are compatible with Wacom pens and active LG pens.
So what's noteworthy here is that the LG V60 is a serious alternative to what you can do right now with Samsung's Samsung Smartphone.
It also supports desktop mode that we couldn't test, but in the imagination you can connect it to a large screen powered by a USB-C cable to work well with interactive features such as a keyboard and mouse.
Ways of working
Both the V40 and the V50 had high resolution resolutions that made the V60 look like a downgrade, but the fact is that many nuances need to be considered. High frequency on the screens is a guaranteed battery feed.
LG has opted to include its new V60 a 5,000 mAh battery with a 60 Hz panel and 1080p quality, in order to achieve the right balance so that these features do not seriously damage the independence that the terminal can provide.
It even has enough power on the main and second screen. In our battery test with Gebenbench 4 and screen brightness set to 120 cdm2, the phone lasted 11 hours and 45 minutes compared to 8 hours and 20 minutes for the S20 Ultra.
While many modern phones with larger batteries seem to be quick to cover for everyday use, in the case of the V60 this is different due to the combination of the display and the battery.
From an economic standpoint, it should be remembered that the V60 is priced at $ 799 compared to the $ 1,399 S20 Ultra, with the added bonus that it has the same Snapdragon 855 chip and X55 5G modem.
Here it should be included that it is not compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile multi-band 5G and is limited to very low bandwidths of less than 6 GHz.
Apparently for operational purposes, the cell phone stands out and the phone flies with its display and any application you throw at it. 128GB expandable storage should also be sufficient for most people.
Some users may think that 8 GB of RAM is limited compared to other models with 10 or even 12 GB, but LG has optimized the phone well by measuring the decisions of the internal components as well hardware.
The built-in V60 built-in sensor on the screen is recognizable and works well without having your hands wet. It seems more effective than the occasional delay caused by Samsung & # 39; s S20 series ultrasonic sensors.
Another great addition to the V60
LG continues to produce some of the best phones in the market when audio is spoken, maintaining wireless communication. The V60 has a 3.5mm hair jackphone with Quad DAC, a standalone DACs component that costs around € 200 more.
The V60 produced the best wireless radio we've been able to hear on the phone by launching the Hi-Fi Quad DAC and another software called the & # 39; G 3D 3D Engine & # 39; The latter adds 3D audio effects by using more setup, though we like the DAC quality.
You will upgrade the Sotify stream, compared to standard cable or Bluetooth audio, as long as you use the advanced features in the FLAC format. There are also services such as high quality Deezer Hi-Fi that will allow you to get the most out of it.
The stereo speakers located above and below the app are also optimized for tone and volume to view multimedia content, something you will automatically use with the speaker phones.
Reference cameras
Although the V60 has already been criticized for reducing its three cameras from the previous model to just two (no Optical zoom lens lens here), in return you get a 64 MP and a f / 1.8 main unit with OIS ( optical image stabilization), with Ultra wide angle 13 MP and significant f / 1.9.
The images from the main sensor are great when you take them in broad daylight, using 4-by-4-pixel processing to deliver 16MP images with accurate color rendering and dynamic range. Here is a picture taken with the main sensor.
We enable HDR automatically and quickly confirm that it's a great decision. The results get worse with low light conditions, and the night mode setting does not compare to that found with Google or Huawei mobiles.
A wide angle angle sensor is appreciated, though the difference in the color temperature between this lens and the first one. You will need to play around with the V60 settings to find the consistency between the two. The 10 MP front is nothing special.
If you want to zoom in on the V60, there is a digital zoom that works with high-resolution 64 MP sensor photography. It's a solution, but don't expect great things when you compare it to the 100x zoom of the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Below, the image was taken at 10x zoom.
LG Camera app goes into recorded mode. This is not a phone I would recommend for people looking for the best auto mode, but it's great if you know what you're doing with the shooting modes it offers.
The same goes for the recorded video: The V60 can record 8K quality, although I managed to say which is the best. We didn't have a consistent display at the time of the test, so we can't confirm the results.
The amazing thing about the camera app is that it has a high-speed preview, especially faster than most other phones, allowing you to explore the frames as if you had a Reflex camera in your hands. Next, manage the LG V60 main mode.
In short, the picture results you'll find on this V60 are behind the Google series and Huawei P and Mate series. There will be those who like the more sensible color paint provided by LG, compared to the over-saturations that Samsung offers.
Android and user experience
The UX 9.0 layer that LG is running on Android 10 on its V60 is undoubtedly the best made by the company so far, or this will prevent you from using updates in the short term.
It offers a nice, little difference to the original models sent by Google and OnePlus, however some skeptics might tell you. However, the app drawer remains fragile.
When you install new downloaded programs, simply join them at the end of the list. No other developer of the popular Android app behaves like this, and it's amazing how LG maintains a high-end model like the V60.
Surprisingly, the user interface won't allow you to change screen brightness when set to default mode. If the auto brightness is properly calibrated it may not matter, but it is very aggressive so we have had to turn it off and turn it on manually.
And we don't have a facial feature by any means, which is a bad practice in the 2020 Flagship.
Price and availability
LG officially sells this phone in the US. USA, at least for now. And it's just US carriers AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. The price the company has set for the V60 ThinQ 5G is $ 799.
If you choose to buy it with a dual screen add-on, the price goes up to $ 899. So, even if you do choose to buy it, you will have discounted prices much lower than the mark of major brands, such as OnePlus, Samsung or Huawei.
You can't buy it currently. Hopefully this will change over time, but for now, this successful call has hampered its availability.
The decision
The LG V60 has been one of the favorite phones of the last two years. It's great, but the way it should be able to combine the use of a single screen, or to double it when you need it, is commendable.
With outstanding battery life, great sound, and a cheap screen case, you'll be delighted with its variety of modes and uses. I also don't think the 1080p 60Hz screen is as bad as it doesn't affect the battery usage.
The V60 is only available by American telephone operators. The USA, which imposes a significant restriction on purchases, at least for now. LG has their reasons for continuing this strategy and we will have to wait for the free market.
