For most people when talking about Samsung mobiles, the only thing that comes to mind is the family of premium devices the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note. However, we must keep in mind that the product type has always had many advantages.
Looking last year, Samsung launched in 2019 a total of 37 phones within 12 months, and the last to arrive was the Glass A51 we reviewed here, with the intention of making an expensive device with good features.
Design and build quality
So, the A51's look is good and the premium patient look, so it can go unnoticed for being a very high priced phone that doubles the actual sale.
Though the glass-backed phones can be found at a low price (and in the middle of nowhere), Samsung has opted to use the plastic finish on the Galaxy A51 at this time. It does not lose its beauty, but it makes it move in our hands.
Speaking of cameras, the setup set on the back of the quad. The 48 MP main sensor comes with a 12 MP wide angle lens, a 5 MP macro sensor and a depth sensor.
All of their cameras are mounted under a module that is particularly reminiscent of the typical S20 display, suggesting that Samsung's use both cheap and cheap phones to monitor the distribution of materials.
Already in its front face, the 6.5-inch OLED panel produces a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. Unfortunately, the screen is Quad HD +, similar to that of Flagship while retaining OLED panel technology.
The frames are small and are only made with a single front camera located at the center of the screen, which guarantees great flexibility when capturing selfies.
The phone is good even though it comprises compact when you have it in your hands. Its screen is 6.5 inches but its 20: 9 aspect ratio and 87.4% body ratio help a lot.
Unlike the rear, the A51's sides are more solid aluminum, with the added bonus that it keeps the mini-headphone jack down. It comes from a USB-C port and a few different speakers.
Hardware and performance
We have already noted that with the best design, it will be difficult for you to distinguish the A51 from that of the market flags. However, the same does not happen with the internal signal elements.
The phone comes with an Exynos 9611 processor, which is owned by Samsung, which compares to Qualcomm & # 39; s Snapdragon 730 chipset. It falls within the middle range and is paired with a Mali-G72 graphics gallery chip.
Unfortunately, with this phone you will feel like you need less processing power. Although you may not notice any delays in handling the interface and most applications, the screen is not as live as Flagship can be.
The feeling can be exacerbated when, as in our case, you come up with a mobile phone screens with a high level of refreshment. This is definitely not supported by 4GB RAM configuration, which is the only option to purchase.
This does not prevent it from being useful for everyday tasks, but it does not reach high-end phones.
The aforementioned becomes even more obvious when playing games and mobile phones. And the fact that the A51 can't deliver headlines directly with deep graphics like Call of Duty or Asphalt, which makes the phone very loud and overheat.
Obviously not specifically designed for games, but you should be aware that it doesn't offer a complete smartphone experience.
Software and Features
The A51 comes with One UI 2.0 on Android 10. In recent months we saw how the customization layer of the ProductWiz presented by its institutions is closely tied to the pure Android, which has made it more attractive and more manageable with the changes of software she is smart.
Also important is the unsigned peace mode, which is miraculously left in favor of the Don Not disturb on the Pixel phone. The launch info cards that appear on the left of the screen are now called Samsung Daily.
They don't seem to work like Google anymore, but they are a step back from what we had years ago so it's all based on the Bixby wizard.
In fact, calls to Bixby across the A51 are slower, or they will be used automatically when you hold the power button. Unlike other older Samsung phones, this one can easily be stopped completely.
Another area where the phone is slightly disappointed is the touchscreen sensor, which has a very low response. It is quite surprising as many other medium-sized cell phones work very well with either Optical technology, or with ultrasonic technology.
As we say, its reliability leaves a lot to be desired. Depending on the admission, even after registering the same thumb, errors appear from time to time. It also has an amazing humidity sensitivity.
Instead, our recommendation is to use face unlocking, which has proven to be very reliable.
As for the One UI 2.0, it adds some exciting new features, such as body definition instead of navigation buttons to make it easier and more user-friendly.
Cameras
Image quality has always been a top priority for Samsung, something that has extended to various other sectors, including in-house. The A51 comes with four rear lenses that can get you everything you want.
It allows the installation of a telephonic lens by providing the largest lens for capturing good photography in very short distances. This is what the A51 camera crew looks like:
- 48 MP f / 2.0 main
- 12 MP f / 2.2 high angle
- 5 MP macro and f / 2.4 macro
- 5 MP f / 2.2 aperture depth
Through them, we can assure you that it is possible to achieve amazing results even if your photos have excellent lighting conditions. Live Focus photo shoot has difficulty explaining edges. This is the management interface for your cameras.
Samsung also allows you to adjust the background blur after taking a picture, which is interesting if you want to adjust the focus on one item or another. Here's a photo that took advantage of your camera's main mode.
The 32 MP selfie camera should a priori take great pictures. However, the results are not as satisfactory as we expected based on the quality of your lens. Like most front-facing cameras, the level of detail of the subject is good, but the background is exposed.
This is a clear example of the fact that the A51 can't compete with the results obtained with high-end telephones, but that doesn't mean that the quality isn't enough for most people who die (unless your selfies are overly sensitive).
Autonomy and battery
The A51 comes with a 4000 mAh high battery. Combined with a 1080p quality display, it provides enough battery life to get a full day and use a standard phone, but no more.
However, we note that it has difficulty with the wait time, as has happened in the past with some Samsung phones. This is evident in the recharge of the battery that we received 6 hours and 36 minutes of use with Geekbench 4.
Fortunately, you should know that we have a quick 15 W charger installed in the box. This will allow you to reset your phone charging percentage to deal with the rest of the day. It also supports Qi wireless charging, even if it's 5 W.
Prices and models
It is possible to buy Galaxy A51 with a suggested price of € 299 with 4 GB of RAM configuration and 64 GB of storage. Its regular price is $ 369 but is currently on sale for a discount of € 70.
A high-end model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage capacity is available. In both configurations you may choose to be worn in black, blue or white, paired with the attractive Prism Crush Blue.
The South Korean company lets you join the program Samsung Renove when buying this last one to bring the old model. If you wish, you can choose again Samsung + care in order to add a 2-year guarantee of € 99.
The final decision
Overall, the A51 is a great phone, but when you look at everything in the mid-range market, it's hard to judge. At first glance, the design is amazing and their cameras make it an attractive tool.
Image effects are great in high light, while a shot that comes in auto mode and uses a wide angle, it is possible to get results that can compete with high-speed calls.
Software has emerged now that One UI is very similar to Android that looks better on big screens. However, 4 GB of RAM seems insufficient for this phone's processing.
Samsung should be able to prioritize higher performance than the emerging technology, as is the case with the use of a fingerprint scanner on the screen.
Samsung fans will not be disappointed when buying this phone, but there are features that need to be improved and the competition is much stronger at this price point.
