The short six months between Vivo’s flagship phones are over again as the company unveiled the Vivo X90, X90 Pro and X90 Pro+.
The X80 Pro is one of our favorite phones of 2022, but the Chinese giant is pushing ahead with a slew of replacement models.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Vivo X90 series.
When will the Vivo X90 be released outside of China?
Vivo announced the phones via livestream in its native China on November 22, 2022, and all three phones are currently on sale there.
The company hasn’t mentioned any global launch plans for the X90 series, but we’ve gotten a UK and European version of the X80 Pro, so fingers crossed.
End December, an official poster was leaked on Twitter which alleges that a global X90 series event will take place on January 31, 2023, though it says nothing else, like which phones and which countries.
Adding hope for an imminent international launch, Vivo Malaysia has started teasing the X90 series on its website. There’s no specific release date mentioned though, nor does it specify which models will launch – but the single shot of the X90 Pro and the ‘Pro is coming’ tagline certainly suggest that the X90 Pro+ can stay on the market. bench.
How much does the Vivo X90 cost?
The Vivo X90 costs ¥3,699 ($520/£430) for the 8GB RAM/128GB version. It also comes in 8GB/256GB, 12GB/256GB, and 12GB/512GB versions for 3 ¥999 ($560/£470), ¥4,499 ($630/£530), and ¥4,999 ($700/£590) respectively.
The X90 Pro costs ¥4,999 ($700/£590) for the 8GB/256GB model. A 12GB/256GB version costs ¥5,499 ($670/£650) while a 12GB/512GB version Go costs ¥5,999 ($840/£700).
The X90 Pro+ costs ¥6,499 ($900/£760) for the 12GB RAM/256GB storage version. A 512GB model costs ¥6,999 ($980/£825).
The X80 Pro costs £1,199 in the UK, so if the phones make it here they’ll all cost significantly more than the converted prices shown.
What are the specifications and features of the Vivo X90?
Vivo has thrown the kitchen sink at the X90 series, with three phones with different specs and features.
The standard X90 shares much of its core specs with the X90 Pro, although the Pro adds things like wireless charging, an improved portrait telephoto lens and a slightly larger battery.
Long live
We thought the X80 Pro earlier in 2022 was as much phone as Vivo could throw at us, but the X90 Pro+ is a full-featured flagship that again attempts to push the boundaries of the smartphone.
The X90 Pro+ pulls out all the stops with IP68 and an insane quad camera setup featuring a one-inch primary camera sensor similar to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. It’s also the only model to have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip instead of the MediaTek Dimensity 9200.
Long live
The 1-inch primary camera sensor is notable as it is one of the first uses of the Sony IMX989 sensor. Vivo used it with a glass lens coated with Zeiss T, a formula said to reduce glare.
Vivo says this 50Mp lens has a 77% larger photosensitive area than the X80 Pro’s 1/1.3-inch sensor. This phone performed superbly in low light thanks to its large sensor, so we’re really hoping the X90 Pro+ makes it to Europe so we can get our hands on it to test.
The camera setup also comes paired with Vivo’s new Image Signal Processor (ISP) V2, a tantalizing upgrade prospect.
Along with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, it’s also one of the most powerful and capable smartphones in the world. It remains to be seen how Vivo uses it beyond raw processing for the camera, but keep in mind that any release outside of China will likely see the phone running Vivo’s Funtouch software rather than OriginOS. that he performs in his country of origin.
Long live
All of this potential phone magic works on an incredibly bright 2K 1800 nit AMOLED display, a Samsung E6 panel to be precise. It has 10-bit color accuracy and can refresh between 1Hz and 120Hz thanks to its LTPO 4.0 technology.
The phone is available in black or a nice red leather version. We’re really hoping it makes it to Europe, but in the meantime be sure to check out our roundup of the best smartphones currently available to see what the X90 series will be up against.
