The evil clown Pennywise, embodied in Stephen King’s novel, first appeared on the big screen in 1990 in a film simply titled It. Nearly 20 years later, the creature began to frighten a new generation of viewers, with the remake also titled It (2017) and the sequel It Chapter 2 (2019). Both films were successes, which is why HBO decided to create a prequel to the series: Welcome to Derry.
Jason Fuchs, the series’ co-showrunner, has announced that work on the set will wrap in early August 2024. Thanks to a recently released clip, you can get a sneak peek at the upcoming horror show.

What will be the plot of Welcome to Derry?
As mentioned earlier, the HBO series will be a prequel to the It movie and It Chapter 2. The series will take viewers back to the small town of Derry, where the evil Pennywise hunted. However, this time, the bloody events will take place in the 1960s.
HBO has yet to reveal plot details, but the series will likely explain how Pennywise appeared in Derry. As we can see from the first teaser, the series will center on a group of children, who will be targeted by the ancient evil – just like in the movies.
