Sometimes it is the idea that we have to pass the power supply from the power card to the graphics card, for many times during the degradation of the interior features of our system. However, those graphics cards require these additional connectors that make sense and are, in fact, required to work.
If the graphics card has a power adapter and does not connect its compatible wires to the source, it won't work directly. If you have just purchased a new image and it is not usable, check if you have connected the additional power first.
The power of the graphics card
Well, we all know how powerful a graphics card is, it gets bigger energy consumption, and the problem is that all drawings that require extra power use more power than the PCI-Express socket can offer, which is currently limited to 75 watts. In other words, any graphics card used over 75W will require additional power, and the way to provide it is by connecting directly to the power supply 6-pin and 8-pin PCI cables – e.
Each connector for PCIe power cables is able to provide An additional 12.5 watts. In other words, the 6-pin PCIe connector is capable of transmitting up to 75 watts, while this goes up to 100 watts in 8 connectors.
Therefore, a graphics card that uses electricity consumption of 150 watts, may require 75 provided by the motherboard but another 75 for additional electricity supply. In this example, we would need an additional 75 watts, and a 6-way connector would be enough. If the graph had to use 225 watts, we would need 75 of the board and another 150, which we could supply with two 6-way connectors, or even 6 and 8 of 8 to reach 250 watts so room for excessive inquiry.
Let's put some examples with existing graphics.
- The AMD Radeon RX 550X has a TDP of up to 50 watts, and as such requires no additional connectors.
- The GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB has a TDP of 120 watts, so it requires a 75W board and an additional 6-pin PCIe connector.
- The Radeon RX 380X has a TDP of 190 watts, and in this case there are two additional 6-pin PCIe connectors you need.
- The GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER has a 250W TDP, so you need a 6-pin PCIe connector and an 8-pin PCIe connector.
- The Radeon RX Vega 64 requires two PCIe 8 connectors because its TDP is 295W.
- There are special cases, such as the PowerColor Radeon Devil 13 with a R9 290X dual, and that requires four 8-pin connectors because its TDP was 475 watts.
This in any case depends on the manufacturer, who designs the graphic and adds it PCIe connectors depending on your usage, so that's not something to worry about: your graphics card already has the extra power connectors it needs, and you need to make sure you give it the extra power it needs.
Why do some paintings not require it?
We already noted earlier that almost every drawing requires these additional power cables, but not all. What you don't need usually are low end and / or low end models, and this one does not exceed 75 watts that the plate provides. If they already have enough of this, in that case they won't need anything else to work. Logically, this type of animation has very low performance which, in many cases, does not even provide them for use in games.
