Even though Halloween is long behind us, the magic still hasn't left movie theaters. Wicked, a musical comedy adaptation based on the book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, takes audiences to the wonderful land of Oz. The story follows two young witches, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Galinda (Ariana Grande), who will become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good, known from the iconic film The Wizard of Oz.

How to watch Wicked now
Currently, the musical is available exclusively in cinemas in the United States and the United Kingdom. If you want to reserve your seats, consult our ticket sales guide.
When will Wicked be released on VOD?
Universal Pictures, which is distributing the film, has not revealed a date when Wicked will be released digitally. We will, however, try to estimate the time window based on Universal's previous VOD releases.
The musical is considered one of this year's biggest blockbusters, and there are many indications that it will be a box office success. If this comes to fruition, the film could follow a similar path to Twisters, released on VOD 25 days after its theatrical release. In this case, Wicked could appear digitally just before Christmas, around December 17, 2024.
However, the quick release of Twisters on VOD was a rather unique case. The Super Mario Bros. movie. and Despicable Me 4, which were also successful at the box office, were released digitally 41 days and 69 days respectively after their theatrical release.
It is therefore not excluded that the digital release of Wicked will take place even later: in this case, the film could be available for purchase and rental in January or February 2025.
Note that these dates are just predictions that Universal Pictures has not yet confirmed.

When could Wicked be released on DVD/Blu-ray?
Physical copies of Universal films come after the films are released on VOD. The mentioned Twisters were released on DVD and Blu-ray 70 days after their digital release, The Super Mario Bros. Movie after less than a month and Despicable Me 4 after only 2 weeks.
As you can see, Universal considers each film as an individual case. Based on the examples above, in a best-case scenario, copies of Wicked could go on sale in late December. However, it is much more likely that they appear in the first months of 2025.
When could Wicked be released on streaming services?
Universal's films are released for streaming a month to a month and a half after their release on DVD and Blu-ray.
Peacock will be Wicked's first stop – the film will spend four months there, then it will move to Netflix, where, according to the agreement between the companies, it will spend ten months. After this deadline, the film will return to Peacock.
We estimate that in streaming, Wicked could appear in spring 2025.
