We all have photos, videos and different documents that are important and losing them would almost end in tragedy. In many cases, these are family or vacation photos and videos and important documents such as invoices or contracts. Also, Synology just presented Bee Drivea device for make backup copies quickly and very easily.
You might think that doing a physical backup doesn’t make sense, that you’re already doing it in the cloud. The problem with the cloud, like Google Drive, is that the data no longer belongs to you. Imagine that tomorrow this service stops working, you would lose all your data.
While it’s not a bad option to back up to the cloud, it’s also important to do it locally. In this way we have two backup copies of the same files and we greatly reduce the possibility of losing these precious files.
Create a backup of your files in minutes
Synology knows that life is hectic these days and there is no time to waste. Making a backup is a tedious thing in most cases which can take a lot of time. But with BeeDrive, we can do it in less than three minutes.
This device can be connected to any PC with Windows and smartphone with Android or iOS. We select the folders we want to protect, those that contain critical data.
The first time made a full backup stored information. When we reconnect it, check folder changes in real time. It provides a better recovery point objective (RPO) than scheduled backups for a certain amount of time (one hour, once a day, or once a week).
All files saved on BeeDrive are in the same format as on the source device. If the device breaks down or stops working, we connect BeeDrive to another computer and we can access the files without problems.
BeeDrive has the ability to perform Backups photos and videos from Android and iOS devices via Wi-Fi. No physical connection is required, which guarantees greater convenience. We only need the devices to be on the same WiFi as BeeDrive, nothing more. Then we have to scan Synology device QR code and the “magic” will begin.
The only limitation of WiFi copies is the bandwidth that this wireless connection offers us. A Wi-Fi backup can be up to 11 times faster than transferring files to the cloud.
Synology BeeDrop, a world of possibilities in the palm of your hand
One of the coolest features is that it adds device interconnectivity. We can create a shared folder between devices on the WiFi network in an easy way. When we take a photo on our smartphone, BeeDrop stores it and shares it with other devices.
This function allows you not to need to connect the smartphone to the PC or transfer the file via Bluetooth. It simplifies the editing tasks of professionals or content creators.
The Synology BeeDrive has capacities of 1TB and 2TB and will be available in mid-June. It will be compatible with Windows, iOS and Android initially, and macOS compatibility will be added later. At the moment, the price has not been revealed by the company.
