The Xiaomi 13 is the next flagship series of phones from, you guessed it, Xiaomi – and they’re launching soon.
The company had scheduled an early December launch date for its next two flagship phones, which will likely bring new Qualcomm chipsets and major camera upgrades, but so far that has been delayed.
Here’s everything we know so far about the Chinese giant’s new devices.
When will the Xiaomi 13 be released?
Xiaomi had planned to unveil the Xiaomi 13 series – alongside its updated MIUI 14 software – at an event in China on December 1, but it was postponed at the last minute. Instead, phones will now come to sunday december 11.
The event will start at 7:00 p.m. local time, which means if you can find a stream, it will start at 11:00 a.m. GMT / 6:00 a.m. ET / 3:00 a.m. PT.
Xiaomi tends to release its main range of phones in December in China, with a month or two to wait before they head to the rest of the world – so you should probably be looking for a global and European launch around February, maybe. -to be at the Mobile Salon of the World Congress in Barcelona.
How much will the Xiaomi 13 cost?
As Xiaomi has yet to announce the 13 series, we don’t have official prices. But, of course, the previous generation will give us a good idea. Here’s how they lined up:
We believe it is very likely that Series 13 will stick closely to these prices, with a possible minor increase thanks to ongoing global inflation.
What specs and features will we see in the Xiaomi 13?
Leaks have been slow for the Xiaomi 13 series for a while, but now we know a bit more. Most telling so far is the latest launch poster, which shows two phones: a flat-screen, flat-edged model that we think is the standard Xiaomi 13, and a curved handset that’s expected to be the Pro. We can even make out the color options, a leather finish on the regular model and some camera details.
Xiaomi
It’s a design that doesn’t look too different from the previous 12-series, but with a squarer, squarer camera module.
Xiaomi’s Lei Jun also shared an official image of the front of the Xiaomi 13, giving us an idea of the display and size:
Xiaomi
It doesn’t reveal too a lot, but confirms a few details we suspected based on leaks: that the Xiaomi 13 will have thin bezels, will be ever so slightly larger than the Xiaomi 12 (that phone was 69.9mm in diameter), and again shows that the regular model will have a flat screen.
Jun also confirmed a few other details: that the regular and Pro models will have an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance; and that at least one model will use a faux leather finish.
To get a better look at both phones, we have to turn to the leaks. OnLeaks created designs based on leaked phone details, and its renders are similar to official images we’ve seen since. Here’s what OnLeaks thinks the 13 Pro will look like, as published by Zoutons:
We get a better look at the larger, squarer camera module with three equally sized lenses. There is also a larger flash, positioned a bit lower. Otherwise, we can see a finish similar to the Xiaomi 12 series, including a 6.65-inch curved screen and body. Overall, it will supposedly measure 163.0 x 74.6 x 8.8mm.
OnLeaks also shared renders of the standard Xiaomi 13 with CompareDial, and this is a bit more different.
As mentioned above, it no longer has a curved screen and body, and instead uses a square body design that is strikingly reminiscent of recent iPhones. You can see the camera module is similar, but with a slightly smaller lens than the others – a detail that seems wrong, as it’s not seen (or at least not so obviously) in Xiaomi’s own renders. . It will reportedly measure 152.8 x 71.5 x 8.3mm, with a similar 6.2-inch display to the Xiaomi 12.
But what about the specs inside the phone?
Xiaomi, like most flagship manufacturers, tries to use the latest processors to give its products the best performance. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that leakers, including reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, are reporting that they’ll be coming with the all-new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which Qualcomm launched in November.
This would fit with the approach of Xiaomi, which was one of the first manufacturers to launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in its Xiaomi 12 series. Vivo arrived first this year, including the 8 Gen 2 in its new X90 Pro +, but Xiaomi could still be early adopters.
The chip is expected to be combined with RAM and storage in 8/128GB, 8/256GB, 12/256GB, and 12/512GB configurations according to leaker Ishan Agarwal, with UFS 3.1 storage used on the build. 8/128 GB and the most modern. UFS 4.0 standard for others.
The Pro model is designed to feature a 6.7-inch curved AMOLED display with 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, interrupted by a central punch-hole selfie camera. As mentioned above, the standard 13 will use a 6.2-inch flat screen, but it’s also likely to be a 120Hz AMOLED, but possibly with a lower resolution than the Pro.
As far as cameras are concerned, we expect the Leica brand to be transferred to this new series now that Xiaomi has teamed up with the prestigious camera company.
Leaker Panda Is Bald says the standard model will use a 54Mp main camera using the Sony IMX800 sensor with OIS, joined by a 12Mp ultrawide and 10Mp 3x zoom telephoto lens with OIS.
The 13 Pro will apparently switch to the same 1-inch, 50MP Sony IMX989 camera sensor featured in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, which Panda says will be paired with a 50MP telephoto lens and ultra-wide lenses (apparently both using the Samsung JN1 sensor), with other reports including a 32Mp selfie shooter.
Xiaomi teased the Pro’s telephoto lens a bit, showing off its 75mm focal length (approximately 3x zoom) and “floating” lens structure to allow it to focus on both distant objects and subjects alike. much closer.
Finally, according to leaker Panda is Bald, a 4500mAh battery will end up in the regular model, with a 4800mAh capacity in the Pro. Both phones will apparently include 50W wireless charging, while a 3C certification listing confirms wired charging speeds of 67W for the 13, with faster 120W charging for the 13 Pro.
This post from Brar gives a pretty good summary of the current Pro predictions:
And the Xiaomi 13 Ultra?
Xiaomi usually launches its Ultra models a bit after the mainline, so we don’t expect to see it coming anytime soon. However, we already have a first leak on its specifications.
Digital Chat Station is the source, and this first leak focuses on the phone’s camera. We can apparently expect a quad-camera setup, with the return of the 1-inch IMX989 sensor for the primary camera. The big upgrade this time should be the inclusion of gimbal stabilization.
Other than these tidbits, there have been no other leaks on upcoming models, so we’ll keep digging and updating this article as more information becomes available. In the meantime, check out our roundup of the best Xiaomi deals to see if you can pick up a bargain on any of the current models.
