Chinese giant Xiaomi impressed this year with its 13 smartphone lineup, but the pace of modern life means it’s already hard at work on successors.
Here’s everything we know so far about the Xiaomi 14 series.
What release date for the Xiaomi 14?
According to Chinese tech site IT Home (via Gizmochina), the Xiaomi 14 series will launch on October 27 in China. This matches an earlier leak from Digital Chat Station on Weibo, which claimed that the devices would be released in the country before the Double Eleventhat is, November 11th.
Xiaomi has yet to confirm this information, but if true, it would be a little earlier than the previous two years:
- Xiaomi 13 – December 2022 (China), March 2023 (International)
- Xiaomi 12 – December 2021 (China), March 2022 (International)
It’s unclear whether this early release date would impact the global launch schedule, which typically takes place in February or March, often at the same time as the MWC trade show in Barcelona.
How much will the Xiaomi 14 cost?
As with the release date, pricing for the new models has not been revealed. Here’s what it was at the time of launch:
- Xiaomi 13 – $999.99
- Xiaomi 13 Pro – $1,299.99
- Xiaomi 13 Lite – $499.99
- Xiaomi 13 Ultra – $1,499.99
- Xiaomi 12 – $899
- Xiaomi 12 Pro – $1,099
- Xiaomi 12 Lite – $449
The 13 range has seen a slight increase in price, but we think it’s likely that Xiaomi will stick to around the same price point when the Xiaomi 14 range arrives.
What are the technical characteristics of the Xiaomi 14?
With the potential release date of the 14 series still unknown, we haven’t had many details regarding the technical specifications. However, some rumors have recently surfaced that shed light on what Xiaomi could have under the hood.
GSMArena has reported leaks from China that the 14 series will be one of the first to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The latter is expected to be unveiled in October at the annual Snapdragon Summit, which fits perfectly with the schedule.
The report states that the configuration will feature a Cortex-X4 main core, 5 Cortex-A720 cores, and 2 Cortex-A520 cores, making it a 1+5+2 architecture. It is also expected to feature an Adreno 750 GPU, if previous reports prove to be accurate.
We haven’t seen any rumors about the cameras so far. The current Xiaomi 13 sports a 50MP, f/1.88 main camera with OIS, a 12MP, f/2.2 wide-angle, a 10MP, f/2.2 telephoto, and a 32MP, f/2.0 front-facing camera. This is a fairly common feature for flagship devices, so it could appear on the Xiaomi 14, perhaps with some changes.
It’s possible that the Xiaomi 13 Pro’s 1-inch sensor will become standard on the 14 and 14 Pro models, although it’s unlikely to make it to the Lite version.
Digital Discussion Station, a leakerThe Xiaomi 14 battery is said to be 4,860mAh with 90W charging capability, while the 14 Pro is expected to do better with a 5,000mAh cell and 120W charging capability. Both models will offer 50W wireless charging.
That’s all we’ve seen so far, but feel free to check back on this article as we’ll be updating it as we discover more information.
