Xiaomi may be late to the flip phone party, but it knows how to make an entrance.
After three generations of book-style foldable phones, Xiaomi has decided to turn to the other main type of foldable.
The Mix Flip was unveiled in China in July, but is now getting a global launch. And there are a few things that help it stand out from the competition, including Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Xiaomi Mix Flip, including when you can get your hands on one, how much it will cost, and all the key specs and features.
When will the Xiaomi Mix Flip be released?
Xiaomi initially announced the Mix Flip in its native China on July 19, 2024.
Luckily, we didn’t have to wait too long for the phone to arrive in Europe. The phone was launched globally on September 26, 2024alongside the Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro.
You’ll be able to purchase one from Xiaomi’s UK website and potentially from third-party retailers, with a specific release date yet to be confirmed.
As with all Xiaomi products, the Mix Flip will not be available in the United States.
How much does the Xiaomi Mix Flip cost?
In China, the Mix Flip starts at CNY 5,999.
However, while this figure equates to around £640, you’ll pay a lot more for this in the UK.
The only configuration available, offering 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, costs £1,099.
For context, that’s more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 (from £1,049) and the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra (from £999).

What are the specifications and features of the Xiaomi Mix Flip?
From a hardware point of view, the Mix Flip launched in China is functionally identical to the one arriving in Europe. Here are the key details you need to know.
Design and displays
The Xiaomi Mix Flip features a sleek and modern design, available in black, white, purple and in a special nylon fiber edition.
It adopts a large outer screen, which Xiaomi calls the “All Around Liquid” cover screen, measuring 4.01 inches. This makes it the largest exterior display we’ve seen on a flip phone so far, narrowly beating the 4-inch version of the Razr 50 Ultra. The Z Flip 6’s cover screen is significantly smaller at 3.4 inches.

On the Mix Flip, it adopts a 16:9 aspect ratio, which means many videos can run smoothly without black bars or cropping. Since the device can run any app and a range of widgets on the outside, this makes it incredibly versatile.
The exterior display itself is a 1,392 x 1,208 OLED panel. Opening the Mix Flip reveals a 6.86-inch internal OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 3,000 peak brightness. nits, making it one of the brightest screens available on a flip phone.

Performance
Under the hood, the Xiaomi Mix Flip is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which remains the latest and greatest from Qualcomm at the time of its launch.
The Mix Flip is available in several configurations in China – 16GB/1TB, 12GB/512GB and 12GB/256GB – although it appears only the middle option is coming to Europe. There is support for Dual-SIM, but no expandable storage.
Overheating is a common problem on flip phones, one that Xiaomi aims to solve with the inclusion of a 3,500mm vapor chamber. In theory, this will help maintain peak performance during gaming and other demanding tasks.
Cameras
The Mix Flip is equipped with two cameras in the cover screen, which become the rear lenses once you open the device.
The main camera is a 50Mp, f/1.7 sensor, featuring PDAF autofocus and OIS (optical image stabilization). It’s joined by a 50MP, f/2.0 floating telephoto lens, which offers 2x optical zoom and automatically adjusts for clear images up to 9cm from your subject.

Opting for the telephoto lens as a secondary lens is the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra’s approach, while Samsung opted for the ultra-wide instead on the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Inside, a 32MP f/2.0 sensor should ensure decent selfies, although using the cover screen and main lenses will likely provide much better results.
The hinge allows the cameras to be used at any angle between 45° and 135°, improving their versatility.
Battery and charging
One of the most notable features of the Mix Flip is its large 4,780mAh battery, which is one of the largest in the flip phone segment. For context, the Razr 50 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 6 both have 4,000mAh cells.
The Mix Flip also supports 67W HyperCharge fast wired charging, with the necessary charger included in the box. However, there is no wireless charging or reverse wireless charging.

Software and updates
The Mix Flip runs on Xiaomi’s HyperOS software, which is based on Android 14 but has a quite different look and feel.
The outer display offers a range of unique cover screen experiences, including dynamic built-in widgets and quick access to essential functions such as camera, time, weather and notifications.
In terms of updates, Xiaomi says it will offer four years of major OS updates and five years of security patches.
The Xiaomi Mix Flip looks to be a strong contender in the flip phone market, offering a combination of large, bright screens, powerful performance, versatile cameras and competitive pricing.
