The PS5 Pro has more powerful components and a new AI upscaling method for better graphics, but games will need to be updated to take full advantage of the expensive new hardware. So far, Sony has confirmed at least 13 games that will feature better resolution, frame rate, or other improvements when the PS5 Pro launches on November 7.
Among them is Final Fantasy VII Rebirtha sprawling open-world RPG that looked great at times but struggled in places on the four-year-old base PS5. Publisher Square Enix has released some new screenshots taken on the PS5 Pro that show better fidelity, lighting, and other details, but the real proof will be in how smoothly it runs with those flourishes.
Here is the full list of “enhanced” PS5 Pro games confirmed so far:
- Alan-Wake 2
- Assassin’s Creed: Shadow
- Demon Souls
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
- Gran Turismo 7
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- The Crew Motorfest
- The first descendant
- The Last of Us Part II – Remastered
Games that support exclusive PS5 Pro features are marked with the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label on the box or in the PlayStation Store. Sony tells CNET there are “around 40 to 50 games” that will receive patches before the console launches. While most games will receive improved graphics for 60fps modes, some like Horizon Forbidden West runs at 60fps in 4k, while others like Big tourism will have 8k resolution modes and ray tracing effects. System architect Mark Cerny said he expects games to support many different options.
But PS4 and PS5 games that are not updated for the PS5 Pro should also benefit from the more powerful hardware, including better overall stability and performance. “Other improvements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can be applied to more than 8,500 backwards compatible PS4 games that are playable on the PS5 Pro,” said PlayStation co-CEO Hideaki Nishino wrote in a blog post
We’ll likely see a larger list of games getting PS5 Pro enhancements at launch when the hardware is released. In the meantime, Cerny’s technical presentation showed several examples of how games will look better on the new hardware, at least if Your eyes are good enough to see the differences.
