The Director’s Cut of Hideo Kojima’s Weird 2019 Walkathon death stranding came to PC earlier this year. If you like this game and haven’t tried the advanced version yet, I highly recommend it. It’s by far the best version with an expanded vehicle selection, new missions and a higher difficulty level. The PC version also features the Gravity Gloves Half-Life: Alyx. Picking up packages has never been so easy!

death stranding is deck verified, and with the right graphics settings, the deck is a great way to enjoy the thrill of package delivery in a post-apocalyptic world while avoiding floating dead and keeping your BB happy. You know, if you’re into something like that.

I recommend setting the graphics to low here. Also, adjust the main “Frame Rate Limit” in the Steam Deck’s “…” menu to 30. The game itself doesn’t run at this more tolerable frame rate due to in-game settings alone. AMD’s resolution-enhancing FSR technology is also available here, but I found the screen looked like it was covered in petroleum jelly. Your mileage may vary. You’ll still get dips below 20 fps, especially at long draw distances. I find it performs slightly better than the original game on a base PS4, but it lags enough to earn it the Honorable Mention category.

One major caveat is the online functionality. If you are not connected to the internet, death stranding is a very different experience given the lack of the social elements and structures that other players build. But no matter where you’re playing from, you can still use the Steam Deck’s motion controls to calm BB down. aww

Even factoring in honorable mentions in this list, picking the best Steam deck games of 2022 wasn’t easy. I’m sure there are others, even within Deck Verified status on Steam, that deserve a shout out. However, these titles represent an extraordinarily wide range of games available on the platform, from quirky indie games to the most famous AAA blockbusters. Combine the range and variety of the Steam Deck library with some truly incredible control layouts and the options to tweak graphics settings just like on a PC, and it’s not hard to see why so many are lining up to get one.
