Extensions have a way of doing it destiny 2 Feel like a whole new gameAnd incidence of light seems to be no exception. In less than a week, the massive update will add a lot of new content and overhaul the loot shooter in quite a big way. Here’s a summary of everything you can expect Destiny 2: Lightfall upon release on February 28th.
Cyberpunk-infused story campaign
First and foremost, a new expansion means a whole new set of story missions. Given the by The witch queenI hope incidence of light can deliver. In search of a powerful artifact, Guardians head to Neptune, where they meet new allies known as the Cloud Striders, who are protecting a human colony cut off from the rest of the solar system since the Golden Age. Unfortunately, players won’t be the only ones greeting them as Calus’ Shadow Legion army is building up for an attack.
Special enemies called Tormentors
The Shadow Legion is aided by a new breed of enemy that looks like they’re right under the Disciples of The Witness. Sporting big scythes and apparently no heads, tormentor hail from determination 2 mysterious black pyramid ships and will likely pose a whole new type of threat to players.

Cityscape Patrol Zone on Neptune
Much of this action will be takes place in Neomuna, a neon-lit city on Neptune where players can explore the city’s rooftops. Going by the existing trailers, it feels like a mix of “city-pop” vibes and neo-noir intrigue. Based on previous patrol zones, it will have its own quest provider, rank-up rewards, and secrets to discover.
Space magic grappling hook
Unlike previous zones that players traversed on foot or on their Sparrow hoverbikes, Neomuna’s rooftops are designed as a playground to show off incidence of light‘s new grappling hook ability. Included behind the new Beach subclasses, the new maneuver is intended to add much more verticality to the game. And frankly, what game hasn’t been improved lately by adding a grappling hook?
Fatal fall damage disappears
In anticipation of players bouncing around the Neomuna skyline, Bungie announced that the physics of player collisions will receive a shake. Lethal fall damage becomes rare when incidence of light goes live and eventually disappears entirely in a mid-season patch. This is music to the ears of anyone who has ever been wiped in a raid or abandoned a nerve-wracking boss fight because they forgot to deploy their thrusters before landing.
Difficulty goes up
While fatal fall injuries could soon be a thing of the past, the rest of destiny 2 becomes more and more difficult. Going forward, even simple activities like the Vanguard Strike playlist will put you at a slight Force disadvantage no matter how overleveled you are. Here is a quick overview:
- Hero: -5 power levels.
- Legend: -15 power levels.
- Master: -20 power levels.
- Grandmaster Nightfalls: -25 power levels.
It appears to be a clear evolution of the legendary campaign difficulty that was first introduced in 2022 The Witch Queen. One concern is that Bungie has yet to mention how the activity rewards will be rescaled to accommodate this added challenge. In all likelihood, the balance will continue to be refined over the coming season and beyond.
Three beach-based subclasses
For the first time in two years destiny 2 gets a new set of superpowers. Beach, a thread-based space magic for tethering to things, will give warlocks, titans, and hunters a whole different way to play. In addition to grappling hooks, they also have access to status effects like Suspend (stuns the enemy), Unravel (deals area damage), Sever (decreases enemy damage), and Woven Mail (spider web armor). Here are a few more highlights:
- Warlock Broodweaver: Summon and swing Thread Spiders and Send Spikes with the Needlestorm Super.
- Titan Berserker: slices through enemies with dual-wielding fist blades, granting allies bonus armor in the process. Bladefury Super grants longer access to weapons.
- Hunter Threadrunner: Hurls a rope dart to debuff enemies and create extra grapple points for allies while the Silkstrike lets them go full Ninja Gaiden.
Guardian Ranks progression system
A new challenge-based ranking system comes into play destiny 2 In incidence of light in an effort to better onboard players. Ranks 1-5 cover the basics, while Ranks 6-10 are seasonal and reset afterward. Rank 11, on the other hand, is based on commendations from other players. “When you see a player at rank 11 in the tower, you know they’re a person who’s doing well as a player and as a leader,” said creative director Tyson Green during a recent media preview. Experienced players start at rank 6 and unlock new mods and perks as they progress.
Tons of more exotic weapons and armor
incidence of light will start with six new exoticsin addition to the Quicksilver Storm auto rifle, which has been available for months by pre-ordering the expansion:
- Final Warning (Beach Sidearm)
- Deterministic Chaos (Void Machine Gun)
- Winterbite (Stasis Glaive)
- Floating Leap (Titanium Legs)
- Swarmers (Warlock Legs)
- Façade of Cyrtararchne (Hunter’s Helmet)
Bungie says more will be revealed during Season 1, including likely secret ones that will begin behind hidden quest lines. Most will still be found in revamped Lost Sectors at first, but Bungie has announced it will be moving Exotics back to the regular loot pool later in the year.
Skill cooldowns are increased
The last 12 months from destiny 2 were a power trip thanks to the 3.0 reworks for the existing Solar, Arc and Void subclasses. Bungie plans to roll back that a bit incidence of lightpartly from Decreased uptime for skills. While certain Supers have shorter cooldowns, you won’t, on average, be constantly throwing grenades and charging up melee abilities in the new expansion (as has been the case in recent seasons). That’s possibly a good thing considering how many times players have been complaining about Power Creep lately destiny 2 making them feel too strong.
Weapons are rebalanced
Along with higher cooldowns, Bungie aims to make guns a cornerstone of the action again incidence of light. Rather than firing something to trigger your abilities, the idea seems to be that you rely a lot more on inheriting the strengths and perks of your primary and secondary weapons. To this end, A few of them will also be rebalanced
The economy in the game changes
The seasonal grind is getting easier. Instead of farming a bunch of new currencies to open a chest with loot inside, you just earn keys instead. Umbrals and Umbral energies also disappear. Focusing will only require Seasonal Engrams and Glimmer. The craft is also refined. Weapon perk sculpting does not require resonant elements and alloys, and Deepsight weapons now only accrue for patterns you haven’t already unlocked. TL;DR: fewer currencies and less RNG.
Mods are revised
Long one of the most indecipherable aspects of destiny 2, Mods are finally being streamlined. Mods are now easier to obtain for new players, they no longer have specific elemental alignments, and you have more room to play around with the most interesting ones thanks to champion artifact mods being moved to a different location. Unfortunately, you still have to make sense determination‘s esoteric buildcrafting language.
The loadout manager makes creating builds a breeze
Not only do mods get revamped, they get one too handy dandy manager just like the existing mode loadout manager. You can see and swap out mods for all of your armor from a single menu screen, while also being able to save entire batches of weapons and armor on the fly. Reaching higher Guardian ranks unlocks more loadout slots. Gamers, especially on PC, have relied on third-party tools to do essentially the same thing for years. Now everyone can enjoy crafting determination BuildCrafting in a way that’s quick and easy and (almost) painless.
A tool to “find a group”… eventually
Back when Bungie was first revealed incidence of lightit showed a new in-game tool “Find by Group” (LFG) that would do destiny 2 more social. Instead of going to a third-party app or website to find people to play with, everything could be done from the main menu. Unfortunately, while the LFG feature is still on the way, it has been delayed until the last season of incidence of light. This is a big bummer, especially since many activities are getting harder and still don’t support in-game matchmaking. But better later than never.
