Warhammer 40,000 spin-off game Necromunda gets called a massive new expansion Necromunda: Ashen Wastes. the Notice, done live from the Las Vegas Open tournament late Thursday night, was pretty vague, but that goes without saying at Games Workshop. It could be a full box set, a set of kits, a hardcover source book, or a combination of all three. Whatever the plan, fans are excited for this long-awaited expansion of the most popular and iconic miniature skirmish game. We recorded them animated trailer Above.
The original Necromunda game is a small unit skirmish game that requires only a handful of models. Released in the mid-90s, it was backed by novels and even one magazine
Traditionally, the action is in Necromunda takes place in the eponymous towering beehive city, a mile-high tower run by violent, heavily armed gangs. The ash desert represents the rest of the planet’s surface. There, nomadic groups eke out a meager existence there, while huge armored convoys move from point to point.
It basically is crazy max 40,000 a year, and the community loves it.
“I totally freaked out,” Steve “Hivescum” Uden said in an interview with Polygon. He and Chris “Underhiver” Iddon are co-hosts of the Necromunda Podcast Swamp City Radio. What shocked him the most, however, was the positive response from the tight-knit community of hobbyists on the internet.
“I don’t remember seeing a single negative response,” he continued. “There were those who were like, ‘It’s not what I hoped it would be.’ But there aren’t people, you know, who have been very, very negative about what’s pretty big for online communities in terms of thumbnails [deal].”
According to Games Workshop, the product is currently in development, but we don’t know at what stage of development it is and when the release date is. But this is actually great news for hobbyists, who can now start kitbashing – that is, banging together pieces from various unrelated mode kits – now. Will your crazy troops and rusty vehicles actually work in the game? Could be. Maybe not. But it will be good practice when the official rules and kits are rolled out.
In fact, the Ash Wastes are so popular that players have been building vehicles and soldiers for years, with some even going so far as to create their own rules. We’ve included some of the best examples – curated by the gang at Sump City Radio – below.
