Current goal: Complete this journey
It’s almost hard for me to believe that the ending is over Alan Wake II is here. The release of the second and final DLC, The Lake House, marks the end, which of course means that Remedy is putting more energy into other things. As a wise man once said, “Every new beginning comes from the end of another beginning.” That’s how it goes. But what a ride Alan Wake II was. It was the most immersive game of last year and one of two releases last year – the other being Tears of the Kingdom– this reminded me what games can do and why I love them so much.
From what I understand, The Lake House only takes a few hours to complete, but they seem poised to deliver exactly what I want from a completion of my time Alan Wake II: Mystery, intrigue and hints of cosmic possibilities. The architecture of the Title Room, a Federal Bureau of Control facility in AWIIThe Pacific Northwest setting is visually reminiscent of the spaces in control but also significantly different, and I’m excited to explore the eerie hallways and see what the FBI has been up to here.
Yesterday, Remedy creative director Sam Lake posted this message on Twitter:
Of course, I can’t imagine what it feels like to reach this point for the people actually working on this saga, who endured the 13-year wait from the release of the first game to the sequel not as players, but as writers and Artists have had to endure waiting for the right moment, waiting for the pieces to fit together, having to put plans aside or go back to the drawing board so many times. But now we are here. It exists. It’s amazing. And this weekend I’ll see how it all ends. With some coffee by my side, of course. – Carolyn Petit
