Baldur’s Gate 3 is imminent and every time we see more of Larian Studios’ upcoming fantasy RPG, I am reminded of just how big this game is going to be. The team has put together another Panel From Hell presentation to showcase more of the game before it comes out of Early Access on PC on August 3rd (PlayStation 5 is out on September 6th).).
If you want to see the full panel, you can do so here:
If you just want the broad strokes, read on.
The character creator is much more comprehensive than it was in Early Access
The first thing that brought Larian to the spotlight was the character creator, which will have several options not available in the game during Early Access. Some of the New properties This includes skin options such as wrinkles, freckles and vitiligo pigmentation. When playing a horned character like a tiefling, you can now change the color of their horns. Some of the major changes include the addition of body types, which allow you to alter your character’s physique to give them a larger or smaller physique.
Along with the general changes that apply to most races, Larian also introduced the Dragonborn race, which she felt was difficult to design compared to the other races because they are reptilian.
The Dark Urge is a character of mysterious origin that you can customize
While you can create your own character Baldur’s Gate 3, you can also play as “Origin” characters. This gives you a specific backstory and perspective to play with, giving you more insight into the cast than you would get as the original player-created character getting to know them. Most of these characters have a fixed race, gender, etc., but Larian has introduced a new character that you can customize, but will have a different backstory than the default custom character.
The origin of Dark Urge puts you in the role of an amnesiac struggling with a nearly uncontrollable thirst for blood that he can’t explain. While they can continue to make friends and more with their group, the violent impulses will play a part in their story until the very end.
Wyll has been completely rewritten
If you have played Baldur’s Gate 3 In Early Access, you probably think you know the group pretty well. Well, one character’s story appears to have been completely reworked before the game’s actual release, and that’s Wyll. According to the team, “pretty much every line of dialogue has been rewritten” for the Warlock party member, and his story has changed significantly from the draft we saw in Early Access. This raised my eyebrows because Wyll was my early access romance, so I’m excited to see how I feel about him after these reworks.
You can have sex with a druid in bear form
One of the most notable sections of the show was Larian focused on romance. This started quite normally with a date between the player and the Tiefling Karlach. But then a wild scene quickly ensued where Astarion had sex with the druid Halsin when he turned into a bear. Do whatever you want with this information.
Lady Dimitrescu’s voice speaks a Baldur’s Gate 3 villain
If, like many others, you were mesmerized by Maggie Robertson’s performance as Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Villageshe pronounces an antagonist Baldur’s Gate 3, as well as. She plays shape-shifter Orin the Red, who is described in the stream as “relentless” and devoted to a deity that compels her to violent ends.
Warlocks can speak to their patrons
The Warlock class is known internally D&D Lore for a pact with a patron. These are demons who bestow magical abilities in exchange for their relentless (and possibly unwilling) loyalty. As part of an effort to provide different classes with original ways to solve problems, warlocks can consult their patron in making decisions. Being a Warlock player myself, that’s a damn rule. I’m excited to see how that relationship develops in the final game.
