Current goal: Venture further out into the world
I said this here My city But so many RPGs use the same Tolkien-esque building blocks when creating their worlds. And look, there’s nothing wrong with that. I love dwarves, orcs and wizards with long gray beards as much as anyone. But it makes it all the more exciting when you come across a world that feels truly original. I will never forget the excitement it brought Morrowind, finding a world with a hint of familiarity, but that was also wondrous and strange. I barely entered it Mania of terrora new first-person open-world RPG that just came out of Early Access this week, but it’s already giving me the similar feeling of venturing into a world like I’ve never seen before.
Of course there are familiar elements here: swords and spells, certain and vague Warcraft-like flying airships at that. But there are also crimson skies, massive mushrooms, and enemies that defy description. The fact that technology drives Mania of terror It’s all reminiscent of the late 90s Power and magic Games only add to the wonderfully structured atmosphere.
Fortunately, while the world itself is alien, the core mechanics of the RPG feel fairly accessible and there’s a lot of flexibility when deciding what type of character you want to create. Like I said, I’ve only just scratched the surface Mania of terror So far, but I’m really looking forward to getting lost in it for a while this weekend and seeing what new wonders await on the horizon. – Carolyn Petit
