If you are only reading one Doctor Doom-related comic to get to know the villain and what he might be like in the MCU, I would recommend legendary Marvel writer Jonathan Hickman’s interpretation of the character. This is cheating, however, as Hickman based his interpretation of Doom on Fantastic Four and ends in 2016 with the completion of the Secret Wars Event comic. That’s about seven years of comics to read, which is daunting, but I promise it’s worth it.
Over Fantastic Four, avenger, New AvengersAnd Secret WarsHickman’s portrayal of Doom as a man operating at the highest possible level in the universe is fascinating. He’s basically playing 5D chess all the time, and watching Doom essentially deal with ending the multiverse and killing gods on his own is stark. 2027s Secret Avengers Wars shares the same name as Hickman’s thrilling finale, so it’s safe to assume it will be a major inspiration for the MCU.
