The current incarnation of Atari, France SA-Atari SA, is moving away from the company founded by sports pioneers Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney back in 1972, but the name and logo still carry a lot of weight. So much so that the company has signed a contract with a U.S. architect. Building eight branded hotels nationwide, each with its own esports studio and a "stadium."
As well as in-store amenities and what I consider to be the best of its kind, the planned Atari hotels will also feature restaurants, bars, movie theaters, meeting rooms, a bakery and a gym. These locations are intended to provide unique information for both business and family travelers. It sounds like the right place to explain to my kids what Atari was compared to now.
Arizona-based developer True North Studio has eight cities ranked in Atari hotels, starting in Phoenix, Arizona, with plans to do so locally this year. Other locations include Austin, Texas; Chicago, Ill .; Denver, Colo .; Las Vegas; San Francisco and San Jose, Calif .; and Seattle, Wash. According to the official announcement, Atari will be receiving 5 percent of the proceeds from the hotels, plus $ 600,000 to sign the contract.
