Play it on: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, Windows (Steam Deck OK)
Current goal: Make it to the next “island”
Everyone’s favorite orange marsupial recently had a big sale on Steam. Having already played the very good and very authentic one, N. Sane Trilogy A few years ago I knew I had to grab a copy to play on my Steam Deck to check it out again and find out which of the original three games is really my favorite (it is Crash 2, For your information). And how it happened, 2020 Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time from the developer Toys For Bob Also on offer.
I’ve been curious about this entry since it was published. However, I’m shocked that we just completely overlook the PS2 era Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex as the actual fourth track (which was perhaps a bit too safe, but otherwise delivered solidly). crash experience), I was ready to spend some more time with my orange buddy, this time with new developers at the helm.
And folks, I’m not at all disappointed. While Crash 4 had to compete with a few other games I’m currently juggling, every moment I spend with it is glorious. Yes, it’s pretty darn hard, even compared to old school crash games. But so far it feels more in tune with the core of what matters crash crash than even Crash Bandicoot 3 did!
The jumping feels good (yes, yes, the double jump is a get-out-of-death card, so to speak) and all of my old muscle memory tricks remain intact. And rail grinding isn’t nearly as unconventional as I feared. I also appreciate the harder difficulty level. As old school crash Fan, I’m excited to take on a new challenge.
I’m definitely going to take some time this weekend to jump back in and smash a few boxes… as I realize that’s what a youngster spent Crash Bandicoot probably had something to do with my destructive tendencies as a child. –Claire Jackson
