After Activision Blizzard Chief Communications Officer Lulu Cheng Meservey released an alleged “company-wide Slack message disparagingly [Activision Blizzard workers’] Union,” the Communications Workers of America have filed a new complaint of unfair working conditions with the National Labor Relations Board.
The indictment, filed on Monday, alleges that Meservey posted “anti-union propaganda” on Oct. 18 in the #ABK press slack room and to an estimated 18,000 workers later published on Twitterwhere Twitter users accused her of “promoting right-wing talking points”, according to Kotaku. In that message, Meservey commented on the NLRB’s decision to allow Blizzard Albany workers to vote on a union.
In the Slack message, Meservey reportedly claimed that collective bargaining is slow and that the process deters workers from receiving bonuses or pay increases, among other things. The complaint says that after these comments, the workers were unable to respond to the message via text, so they shared their response using emojis; Shannon Liao of the Washington Post said Meservey was “confronted with negative emojis,” which Meservey later admitted, “I can hear the booing from here! And registered the disappointed dog emojis.”
CWA said of its unfair workload, Meservey’s “anti-union” message violated workers’ rights. You can read the full filing below.
