At startup, New world broke records and built a massive player base of over a million concurrent players. But like my high school bully, this massive monstrosity of an MMORPG somehow managed to quickly reach its peak and disappear from the face of the earth. Despite the lackluster response after the first month, Amazon Game Studios hasn’t thrown in the towel like so many of them expected. Instead, they continued to refine the gameplay, redesigning entire zones and offering players a hand-crafted world with some of the best collecting and crafting elements in the genre. Now, a few years and a single expansion later, the team has redesigned the experience New World: Eternal.
what is New World: Eternal? It’s a complete overhaul of the MMORPG with large-scale PvP, a 10-player raid, end-game solo content, a revamped solo experience for story-focused players, better quality of life features, controller support… oh, and swimming mechanics. There’s a lot to digest, especially if you’re a returning player willing to give Amazon’s MMO another chance.
