How to use an Amiibo in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Like with Breath of the Wildyou can scan Amiibo from your skill wheel to receive bonus items – some of which are similar to the previous theme Legend of Zelda games. (If Amiibo scanning is disabled for you, you can enable the scanning feature in the Options menu.)
After selecting the Amiibo logo “a” on the wheel, you can hold the Amiibo against the Nintendo Switch logo in the center of your Pro Controller or against the right control stick on your Joy-Con (or Switch Lite).
How do Amiibo rewards work in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
Depending on the figure, Amiibo rewards range from glider cloth to armor, weapons, or materials (like ancient blades).
For example, scan the Majora’s Mask With the Link amiibo you get the chance to get themed fabrics for your glider or the Fierce Deity set. In addition, Amiibo often also have a theme that runs through their respective characters – most Link Amiibo drop some kind of generic sword, or Zelda Amiibo that grant minerals, herbs and flowers.
Note that the respective reward is not guaranteed with every scan, meaning you will have to tap Amiibo multiple times to unlock all associated items.
Since each individual Amiibo only needs to be scanned once per day, it may take a while to unlock everything in that character’s reward pool. The good news, however, is that pretty much everything an Amiibo can unlock can also be found in the game – so think of this as an additional shortcut to getting various themed items, albeit with a dash of luck. An exception is the paragliding fabric, which is available exclusively from amiibo.
Update (February 8): Best Buy is accepting pre-orders for Sheik, Guardian, and Wolf Link, so we’ve updated the retailer links for these Amiibo options.
