Alleria Windrunner is one of the most important characters in World of Warcraft at the moment, and she has quite a history in the long-running fantasy franchise. Alleria was a key player in the original RTS Warcraft games, an elven ranger from Silvermoon who dedicated her efforts to the war between the Alliance and Horde. She passed through the Dark Portal alongside a group of heroes to end that war and secure peace for her family.
After that, we didn’t hear anything from Alleria for a long time; she appeared in World of Warcraft only as a statue or as the namesake of a small settlement. As it turned out, she and her husband Turalyon had joined the Army of Light and fought a thousand-year war in the realm of the Twisted Nether. They reappeared in legionalong with the Army of Light, and they helped the heroes defeat the threat of the Burning Legion.
To survive the long war, Alleria has turned to the powers of the Shadow, absorbing the power of the dark naaru L’ura. She is the first void elf, giving her both spectacular shadow powers and a constant stream of corrupting rumors. Alleria uses the void for heroic purposes, but is constantly in danger of becoming evil.
This animation summarizes all of this lore in a very strong visual style; it is very clear and a great way to learn about Alleria’s lore before The war within starts on August 26th.
