The last few years have been quite busy with TV shows and movies adapted from popular games. and more are in the pipeline. If you ask some fans, many of these shows have strayed too far from their original source material, so it might be nice to hear that Amazon’s producers God of War The TV show wants to stay “incredibly true” to its original source material: the games.

Although it was reported earlier this yearAmazon officially confirmed this just last week Development of a TV show based on the popular and durable God of War Franchise. The PlayStation Series features Kratos, a god-like Spartan warrior who runs around the world killing everything. Recent games have aged him and given him a son, which has changed the tone of the series and helped make it more popular than ever. And now, in an interview with collidersAmazon Studios Head of TV Vernon Sanders explained that the upcoming streaming show will be “incredibly faithful” to the original, which he says has a “real emotional core.”

“We know there is such a passionate fan base for God of War‘ Sanders said colliders. “But what we’re always looking for is if there’s a real emotional core, if there’s a real narrative story, and I think [that’s] part of what makes God of War so special.”

The Amazon TV boss continued, explaining that while the newer games are “huge epic” adventures, they still focus on telling a story about “fathers and sons and families.” He believes this will appeal to everyone, even people who haven’t played the games.

“So what [showrunners] Rafe Judkins and Mark Fergus and [writer] Hawk Ostby came up with an idea for the first season and for the series that I think is both incredibly faithful to the source material and compelling in its own right,” Sanders explained. “So we think it’s going to be huge.”

Recent adaptations of video games, such as resident Evil on Netflix and gloriole on Paramount+, have been heavily criticized online by fans for straying too far from the original source material the shows are said to be inspired by. And while I’m hesitant to agree with angry fans online, and I think adjustments should be allowed to make changes, it’s hard not to get a little annoyed at how often the Master Chief takes his helmet off in the new gloriole Show. And as Sanders points out, Amazon has a good track record of making customizations that fans like and listing them The young and Invincible as examples of how to make adjustments correctly.

Talking is cheap, of course, and producing TV shows is difficult. It’s always nice to say you’re staying true to a video game’s plot and narrative, but it’s a lot harder when so many of the games that are being adapted into TV shows are mostly 20 hours of combat with around four hours of cutscenes and script. But hey, maybe God of War on Amazon Prime and The last of us on HBO Max will be fantastic and stay true to their source material. Apparently, The last of us is actually the greatest story ever told in a video game. Seems like this should make for some good episodes of Prestige TV?
