It would not be Summer Game Fest and the spirit of the E3 season without a big Nintendo Direct. Previously teased for June, it now looks like the big Switch showcase could take place as early as next week, thanks to a suspiciously early announcement from Among us Manufacturer Innersloth.
Back in MayNintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced that the company would hold a June Direct, as it does every year, to present games that will be released for Switch in the second half of 2024. He stressed that while Nintendo will begin announcing details about the console’s successor in the next nine months, it will not say anything about a Rumored Switch 2 would be revealed during the upcoming livestream.
It now looks like Nintendo Direct is probably aiming for a stream on June 18th. This is according to a YouTube video for an upcoming update to the multiplayer murder sim Among us which was apparently accidentally uploaded and published prematurely before being removed. Copies of the videowhich introduces new roles for the popular pandemic-era party game, are still available and the content was reported by GoNintendo.
While it’s always possible that the video is a standalone announcement, Innersloth has previously revealed updates in Nintendo Directs, and the words “available now” make it sound like a shadow that would go live when the presentation airs. While companies’ plans can always change, June 18th or later that same week seems the closest to a sure thing due to the fact that we’re still waiting for the Direct and the month is almost over.
Nintendo’s schedule for the Switch 2024 is after the release of Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD on June 27. With the console expected to be discontinued starting next year, this will (hopefully) be the last victory lap before the Switch 2 is revealed after reported delays. We still have no update on Metroid Prime 4announced at the beginning of the Switch’s life cycle, and as Microsoft focuses more on multiplatform, Square Enix wants to port its previous exclusive titles and Sony Lego Horizon Adventure There is a lot that could be announced regarding the handheld hybrid.
Maybe we’ll even get a new Pokemon game this fall. While Pokémon Legends: ZA has already been announced for 2025, it would be great to get a rumored remake of Pokémon Black And White in the meantime. Who knows, maybe we will even get an extension for Super Mario Bros. Wonder. I have already collected all the Wonders in the game and desperately want more levels.
