We finally have our first clue as to what Loki Season 2 is, unsurprisingly, about Kang. The first real teaser for the new season came as the final post-credits scene for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniaand it teased a few possible futures for the Disney Plus series.
Here’s everything that happened in the Loki teasers out Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniaand what it might mean for the show’s next season.
[Ed. note: This story contains spoilers for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.]
In the post-credits scene, we see what appears to be a Victorian-era scientific presentation given by a man named Victor Timely. Victor is played by Jonathan Majors, who also plays all alternate versions of dimension-shifting genius Overlord Kang, villain-designated for Marvel’s phases 5 and 6. Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston) recognizes Victor as a threat because he previously confronted another was version of Kang at the end Loki Season 1.
In the comics, Timely is another identity once used by the time traveling Kang. As Timely, Kang went to Wisconsin in 1901 to start his own small town, where he struck up a friendship with scientist Phineas Horton – a retcon who indirectly blamed Kang for creating the human torch. No, not the one on the Fantastic Four; the original wartime superhero that inspired this character. He was an android that was also on fire.
While none of this necessarily addresses it Loki season 2‘s central plot gives us a few different possibilities to speculate about. For one thing, it’s possible that Loki and Mobius are looking for as many Kang variants as they can find, possibly looking for independent variants to counteract this Council of Kangs. Possibly more importantly, it could suggest that Mobius and Loki could (accidentally or otherwise) help fuel the creation of the Fantastic Four in the MCU, but it is still too far away to make any real conjectures about them.
Loki Season 2 has no release date yet, but is slated to come to Disney Plus in Summer 2023.
