A decade after its original release, cult sci-fi classic Attack the block gets a sequel, Deadline announced On Monday. Returning from the original film is writer and director Joe Cornish and star John Boyega.
In the original film, Boyega plays Moses, a young resident of south London who, together with his neighbors, has to defend their high-rise block from alien invaders. Moses ‘friends’ are Samantha, played by Jodie Whittaker (Dr. who) and Ron, played by Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead),
Unfortunately, the announcement of the new sequel didn’t include any plot details, but it’s probably a safe bet that some kind of hostile alien life has likely made its way back to London. The announcement also made no mention of whether anyone from the cast of the first film would return or whether only Boyega would repeat his original role.
Attack the block quickly became a cult hit and internet darling after its release in 2011. But the film created waves that went far beyond the attractiveness of the audience. It also turned out to be a breakout role for John Boyega before heading up the Star Wars franchise in the sequel to the trilogy.
As for director Joe Cornish, his time since the original Attack the block was a little less eventful. He co-wrote the script for Marvels Ant man with Edgard Wright in 2015 and wrote and directed a 2019 film called The child who would be king. Cornish is also committed to writing, directing, and adapting Mark Millar’s comic book series Starlight.
