According to a recent Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix broke many mods, including a popular tool. Larian Studios announced that it is working on official mod support.
Michael Douse, Director of Publishing at Larian, reached out to X (formerly Twitter) to address some concerns from the modding community, explaining that the team is working on cross-platform mod support. The update is expected to be released later this year.
Generally we don’t talk about things until they’re done, but as you may have read, we make an exception. We’ve been working on a robust, cross-platform mod support plan to be released later this year. We love our modding community and want to support it. It’s coming. https://t.co/54GsxNshlQ

“We have a system, but it needs testing and still needs work,” he wrote. “I understand it sucks [sic] when the game is updated and mods break. Our community teams will begin talking to and engaging the modding community. The work continues for now.”
The Baldur’s Gate 3 The modding community was struggling with a lack of support even before the game left Early Access. It is difficult for modders to constantly update or work around the problems that hotfixes and patches can cause. For example, Hotfix #18 is broken Baldur’s Gate 3 Script Extender, a popular tool used by modders and people who use mods – and this isn’t the first time the tool has broken either. There are so many mods for the game, including some that simply add quality of life features (such as increasing or decreasing in-game notifications) and some that allow players to customize the appearance of the characters.
According to WombatMedic, a senior community strategist on the official Larian Studios Discord, the developers have been working on this for some time. It will be a long process, however, as Wombat says players should expect it to arrive with the next major patch, which is “still a few months away.” (For your information: The last major patch was released last week.)
“We absolutely love that we have such an active modding community for all of our titles […] “We still want to ensure you have the best gaming experience possible, which is why we patch the game frequently, although this inevitably means that any new patch or hotfix may become incompatible with your favorite mods,” she wrote. “We know this sucks, we knowledge They want to play with mods, and we want to do it right.”
Wombat responded to user concerns on Discord saying the team also needed to improve communication of resources and support.
“Together with the platform owners, we are working to make this a reality and forming a team to support mod curation. Our goal is to provide modding support for things like classes, UI, customizations, spells, and specific assets and gameplay mechanics,” she wrote.
