Baldur’s Gate 3‘S The sixth patch has been releasedand it brings with it a ton of new kissing animations different love interests. While everyone in camp can kiss their significant other, one of the best parts of the patch is for us Gale lovers, as a new touch animation has made one of the most important scenes in his romantic storyline a little more personal.
If you romanticize Gale and stop him from being a god, Baldur’s Gate 3The wizard will propose to you after you defeat the final boss. This is the route I took when I played through Larian’s RPG, but the scene in question felt a bit impersonal on the first playthrough. The dialogue and actor Tim Downie’s performance were great, but the whole thing was shot with Gale and my warlock facing each other and maintaining that distance.
Patch 6 adds a lot more to this post-final boss scene for all possible pairings, including waking up in bed together and having the same conversation, but a little more dynamic. The couple walks around the room and kisses between the lines, overall it’s a better version of the original scene. However, when Gale proposes marriage, he now gets down on one knee and kisses the player’s hand. Sure, it’s not a ring, but it still made my heart beat faster.
What’s interesting is that this optimization was inspired by a piece of fan art. In August, Twitter artist @niku30_ posted a piece showing Gale kissing someone’s hand and Larian Senior Cinematic Artist Elodi Ceselli confirmed that the art inspired the updated scene.
Baldur’s Gate 3 brings out the most romantic, fanfiction-crazy version of me, and it was wonderful to see Larian so in tune with this aspect of the gaming community. As a Gale romantic who has survived the onslaught of jokes about him because he’s a big nerd, it’s good to know that Larian has my back and the rest of the Galemancers. So thank you to @niku30_ for organizing the events that made this beautiful scene even better. Now I’m going to watch all these new kisses on loop.
