Troubled shooter Battlefield 2042 will be added to EA Play and Game Pass Ultimate subscription services when Season 3 starts in “a few weeks”.
Developer EA DICE made the announcement in a blog post detailing the changes coming in the upcoming se ason.
Battlefield 2042 will hit the Subs platforms just over a year after launching in November 2021 – a normal interval for a major release from Electronic Arts. But the publisher is hoping that an inquisitive new audience on Game Pass will give the fighting game a boost. Nevertheless, DICE is committed to support 2042 medium to long term. The developer mentioned that he has started pre-production on “any new content coming after Season 4 next year”. Maybe a longer engagement 2042 will buy the developer time to revisit this series, under the watchful eye of Respawn boss (and Call of Duty alumnus) Vince Zampella, who has been hired by Wilson to oversee Battlefield.
“We’re proud of the work we’ve done over the past 12 months,” the studio said. Crucially, Season 3 will bring the game’s Specialists the announced overhaul, giving them all of the traditional Battlefield classes with well-defined roles. In addition, there will be a new specialist, some map updates and the addition of popular weapons, including bad company 2the XM8.
It seems like the advent of Season 3 and its addition to Game Pass Ultimate will offer as good a time as any Battlefield 2042 a first – or second – chance.
