In Fallout 76, Reclamation Day in 2103 marks the occasion when Vault Dwellers leave Vault 76 and begin their journey in Appalachia. In the real world, Fallout Day is a celebration of the Fallout series that takes place on the same day as Reclamation Day. To celebrate the 2024 celebration, Bethesda hosted a Fallout Day broadcast showcasing some of the next updates to the game. These include pets, a fishing mini-game and an endgame raid that ends with a huge, terrifying snake boss.
The Fallout Day video featured several Bethesda developers talking about their day-to-day work, sharing real-life memories of the good times in the wasteland, and tongue-in-cheek complaining about how painful it was to work with a fellow ghoul. The highlight is the new endgame raid, which is heavily inspired by MMO-style dungeons and is intended to provide a serious challenge for dedicated players. Teams will venture underground, survive a hunt by an angry mole miner, and ultimately face the Ultracite Terror – a large, scary snake originally inspired by a miner.
We also learned more about what it will be like to play a ghoul in the game. Bethesda first revealed that players could become ghouls back in June, but with this video the developer showed off some of the effects that choice will have on gameplay. For one thing, ghouls don’t have to worry about hunger or thirst, but rather a “wild” meter. Going wild offers some advantages in combat, but as Stand out The show on Amazon shows that no one wants to leave to wild. Ghouls also have unique talents to choose from and are completely immune to radiation – in fact, radiation heals them. However, some factions, such as the Brotherhood of Steel, treat ghoul players with ridicule and hostility unless you create a clever disguise. If the ghoul life is just too much, players can forego it altogether and be human again.
Bethesda also showed off the two new pets players can unlock for their bases – a dog and a cat, with more to come in future updates. Personally, I’m fascinated by the obvious reference to a fishing mini-game. I hope to catch a three-eyed fish and cook it for dinner with minimal risk of mutation. No man’s sky A fishing mini-game was recently added which was very well received. Perhaps players simply long for the humble life of a fisherman.
