street fighter 6 feels like a shot in the arm for Capcom’s long-running fight series afterward Street Fighter V‘S mediocre receptionand a lot of it boils down to that how much personality it injects into each frame
To the uninitiated, Blanka is a bestial man who is technically human but comparable to characters like Beast The X-Men comics that he is stuck in a transformed state after an encounter with electric eels while retaining his humanity. That is why he has electrical powers. It’s ok, it’s fighting game lore, it doesn’t need to explain the fake science. But he’s still absolutely ferocious when fighting what’s embodied in his street fighter 6 Entry.
While most of the characters just walk on stage while hyping the crowd, Blanka is out here doing full-grown cartwheels next to spectators. He might face a more stoic character like Ryu who just confidently goes to his certain side, but my guy does a whole gymnastics routine right next to him. I salute any street warrior who stays cool and doesn’t look mildly confused during this gratuitous display of athleticism. I can’t help but be an acrobatic king.
street fighter 6 is due out on June 2nd for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but you can already play part of the game’s story mode through the demo that released last month on all platforms. I played a lot Street Fighter V, and while I loved the actual combat, it felt a little sterile on the personality front. But street fighter 6 really pulls out all the stops to make every fight feel like an event. It helps the characters feel like more than high-definition stick figures tossing at each other, which is more exciting to watch and play. Consider me intrigued.
