Hey! Do you remember Blitzball? It was this weird looking but also kinda cool underwater sport Final Fantasy X? Well, now Blitzball is (sort of) a part of it war of stars universe Thanks to a person who previously wrote about the NHL and his new book starring Anakin and Obi-Wan.
I am pleased that 2022 continues to be a year of Madlib-like headlines that are both difficult to predict and difficult to understand.
Released earlier this month, brotherhood is a new Star Wars book set in the early days of the Clone Wars. Starring Anakin Skywalker and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, the narrative is about “this business” on Cato Nemoidiaas mentioned in a throwaway line of dialogue between the two characters from the 2005 film, Vengeance of the Sith.
However, as is usual with most, the new book has a bunch of Easter eggs and little hints of other things war of stars Media. To celebrate the book’s release, brotherhood Author Mike Chen recently created a Twitter thread discussing all of these different Easter eggs. And one of them caught the eye final fantasy fans online. According to Chen, the sport called Blitzball fell into the book while a scene near a lake is a direct nod to Square Enix’s popular 2001 PS2 RPG, Final Fantasy X

“Blitzball is basically underwater hockey played as a mini-game Final Fantasy X‘ Chen tweeted. “As a former NHL writer, I loved Blitzball beyond belief and spent hours winning leagues.”
There’s a lot to unpack here, not least someone describes blitzball as underwater hockey. It’s more like aqua soccer or rugby. This is all very strange!
Well, to be clear: Final Fantasy XTitus etc. are not suddenly canon in it war of stars. Instead, a sport that plays Blitzball and looks like seen in the RPG is now canon war of stars. As someone who is not a big fan of FFX or Blitzball, but is a big fan of them war of starsthis is indeed a very strange moment.
And because I have chronic war of stars Brain, I can’t help but think of the infamous scene between Anakin and Palpatine in Star Wars Episode III. You know, the where Old Plappy tells Anakin about Darth Plagueis the Wise. In the background of this scene, during this conversation, you can see them Mon Calamari Aquatic Ballet performance by Squid Lake. And what does it all look like? Yes, you guessed it lightning ball out FFX. In the words of George Lucas: “It’s like poetry, they rhyme.”
Speaking of fun Easter eggs in the new book, Chen also confirmed that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order‘s main character, Cal Kestis, has a small cameo appearance in the book than the “redheaded youngster” you hang out with Jedi Master Jaro Tapal. Perhaps Kestis is taking a moment to pause in the recently announced sequel, Jedi Survivor, not to mention how much he loves Blitzball?
