Today Activision Blizzard announced three upcoming programs surveillance 2‘s competitive and recreational scene. These aim to promote a healthy environment, with a focus on the new and returning LGBTQ+ player base.
In a blog post titled “Calling all heroes,” the over watch Team and its competitive esports program Overwatch League (OWL) announced that they will jointly develop an in-game defense matrix, the Challenger’s Cup and Caster Camp. Blizzard said the goal of these programs is to “focus on equity, visibility, and community support for underrepresented genders.”
To ensure that its mission statement is adhered to, the over watch Team announced that it will introduce a gameplay system called Defense Matrix. Named after D.VA’s ability to block projectilesBlizzard said the program will act as a system to “protect the integrity of the game and encourage positive behavior surveillance 2.” How it will do this could be slightly invasive as it involves using your phone under its new program SMS Protect.
“Defense Matrix strengthens over watchthe security and gaming experience of through aspects like SMS Protect, audio transcriptions, and the all-new first-time user experience, to name a few,” Blizzard said in the blog post.
If you tried to unsubscribe from SMS Protect, it looks like you can’t play surveillance 2 at all. Beginning October 4th, players on all platforms will need to link their phone numbers to their Battle Net accounts in order to play surveillance 2.

Along with the Defense Matrix announcement, Blizzard also unveiled two new LGBTQ+ programs called Challenger’s Cup and Caster Camp. That applications because the first qualifying rounds for the Challenge Cup begin on October 21st.
