Blizzard’s test of returning to the 6v6 format will begin in Season 14 Overwatch 2which was scheduled to begin on or about December 10th. This initial testing period will be a variation of the game’s open queue format, Keller said, which is described as “Min 1, Max 3” – meaning each six-person team must have at least one of each role and no more than three. Players can switch roles on the fly as long as the team composition follows the “Min 1, Max 3” rule.
A second test is expected to begin in the middle of Season 14, sometime in mid-January. This test follows the original Overwatch‘s 2-2-2 formation. For both tests, there will be “a number of balance changes that are unique to these two test modes,” Keller said. “The strength and survivability of tanks will decrease in these 6v6 formats, and we will take a look at whether we need many of the passive abilities we have added.” Overwatch 2.”
Blizzard will be conducting similar experiments this season, but with the existing 5v5 format in quick play. The first, called “Limit 2”, allows a maximum of two players per role – meaning there is actually the possibility of having two tanks in a team of five. In Limit 2, if a team plays with two tanks, those players will be set to open queue balance, giving the tanks less health.
Regardless of how these tests turn out, it doesn’t sound like Blizzard will fully commit to a final team size.
“Is there a world where both 5v5 and 6v6 exist permanently? Overwatch 2? If you had asked me a few months ago, I would have said no,” Keller said. “As we discussed Overwatch 2When it comes to creating the game our players want to play, we know our players may want more than one experience and that would be something we would need to consider in the future.”
It sounds like the next few months will be some of the most interesting in a long time Overwatch 2 Players, particularly for tanks, have suffered to varying degrees since Blizzard introduced the 5v5 switch. It remains to be seen whether 6v6 or more fluid team compositions will ease this pain, but it’s clear that the Overwatch team is putting a lot of effort into testing to find out what resonates with players.
