Nearly a decade after the game’s Kickstarter campaign first launched, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is about to get the last update. The Castlevania: Symphony of the Night spiritual successor to the former series producer Koji Igarashi was released in 2019 and has received constant content updates since then. These patches were mostly about adding features that were originally promised in the Kickstarter campaign, including stretch goals. This latest update is largely the same, but it will bring the game into high gear with the ability to play with or against friends.
Developer ArtPlay has announced the latest update Blog from May 2nd Publish post on the game’s official website. Update 1.5 will be released on May 9th for PlayStation, PC and Xbox and a week later (May 16th) for Nintendo Switch. Version 1.5 of Bloodstained will introduce two exciting new game modes.
The first, Chaos Mode, is essentially a Boss rush in which players fight through a series of randomly selected rooms to defeat demons and bosses. The mode can be played alone or in local and online co-op.
The second mode, Versus Mode, pits players against each other, but not in an all-out brawl. At the start of the game, players enter a room reserved exclusively for match combat. Then they face off against waves of enemy hordes, fighting to see who can survive the longest. Defeating enemies gives you souls, which you can use to upgrade your equipment or purchase attacks that negatively affect your opponent, such as reversing their control. Of course, whoever lasts the longest wins.
In addition to these two game modes, Update 1.5 will also add four cosmetic packs. One is free and three are premium packages. However, it seems the development team has another treat in store, as the blog post teases Classic II: Dominique’s Curse, a new premium DLC that adds a larger map and a new storyline with classic mode gameplay. There is no release date for this yet.
As the blog notes, Chaos and Versus modes are the final stretch goals for the game. Once version 1.5 is released, the team will work to release a physical PC version and give some backers their final promised reward. After that, ArtPlay will have completed a journey of almost ten years Bloodstained.
