Blue-eyed samurai is coming back for a second season on Netflix. The series debuted on November 3rd and was renewed a few weeks later. Netflix announced the second season with a short video on Monday.

The renewal of the series is no surprise given its popularity. It spent several weeks in Netflix’s top 10 and made several best-of-the-year lists, including second place on Polygon’s own list. Furthermore, the first season of the series ends with the clear intention of another season. But Netflix hasn’t revealed much more about what we can expect from Season 2 other than that it’s on the way. So here’s everything we know about the next season of Blue-eyed samurai:

[Ed. note: This story contains spoilers for Blue Eye Samurai season 1.]

Will Blue Eye Samurai get more seasons?

We know for sure that a second season is on the way, but Netflix’s announcement didn’t come with the promise of anything more than that. While some animated series often hit theaters for at least a season or two, it seems we’ll have to wait a while to find out how long Mizu’s journey will last.

When will the second season of Blue Eye Samurai be released?

There’s no way to know exactly, but the first season was greenlit back in 2020. With the pandemic complicating production and the general difficulty of starting an animated project, we probably won’t have to wait a full three years to finish next season, but it would also be pretty daunting to film another episode next year. With that in mind, 2025 seems to be the most likely date for new episodes of the series to be released.

What is Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 about?

This is very clear in the series: we know that Mizu is leaving London, ready to make her way across a foreign country, which will likely involve quite a bit of culture shock, in the hopes of killing her final two targets. Meanwhile, Akemi makes her way to the palace to have as much influence as possible on the future of Japan, while Ringo appears to have found a new master.

All of this should lead to a much bigger and more expansive second season, but also one that expands the show in exciting new ways.

Who will be in the cast of Blue Eye Samurai season 2?

Apart from the main cast of the first season, who will most likely return, Netflix has not yet announced any new additions for the second season. However, it’s entirely possible that some pretty big names will be added, considering how much talent is already on board as the show heads to London.

Is there anything similar to Blue Eye Samurai that I can watch while I wait for Season 2?

Oddly enough, there is, although we can’t promise it will be good yet. The new series from FX Shogun is about an Australian who travels to Japan and becomes a samurai, and the first trailer looks pretty good. The series is set to debut in February and is likely to attract similar interest Black eye.

If even waiting a few months is too much for you, there is that too Vinland Sagaan anime about a Viking who seeks revenge for his slain father, until he finds out that revenge is much more complicated than he thought.
