Destiny 2: The Final Form is getting closer and we’re at the point where every weekly blog post brings a bombshell that galvanizes the community. But on Thursday, Bungie released some of the biggest news veteran players have ever seen: Destiny 2The weapons are slowly becoming non-stop.
Yes if The final form When it launches, Bungie will remove performance caps for all older devices. Players can upgrade any older equipment to current performance standards, meaning all weapons can be used in the expansion’s new content and the rest of the game.
A quick history lesson for the new Guardians out there or those who have previously stopped playing Beyond the light. In 2020, Bungie introduced what the community calls “Weapon Doom.” The idea was that Bungie would remove the ability to buff (charge) gear of a certain age in order to entice players to use new things. So, weapons from the old Leviathan raid, The Forsaken
Sunset, meanwhile, was met with major backlash Beyond the light era, and Bungie quickly pivoted and announced that no more gear would be going down Destiny 2. However, the damage was done to the old items from before Shadow Fortress and Season of the Dawn, and these weapons have remained “Sunset” ever since.
With this new update, Guardians can now charge any piece of equipment to its maximum power limit if they wish. This is extremely exciting for long-time players, as beloved weapons that have lain dormant in their vaults for years will be available to battle The Witness.
However, there are two big problems here. First, many players – myself included – deleted some of these popular weapons because vault space was limited and the weapons no longer had any real use. For example, I only kept two weapons from this era, purely out of nostalgia: my original Midnight Coup and my Inaugural Speech, both from the Leviathan raid.
The second problem is that these weapons simply aren’t as powerful as new weapons. You won’t have access to the newer, extremely powerful perks that Bungie has added since 2020. And they simply don’t have the Origin Trait, a new perk slot that connects weapon families that Bungie added The Witch Queen
However, Bungie has delivered good news on both fronts. While there’s no way to help players recover beloved weapons they’ve deleted, Bungie plans to introduce new sources so players can get “most” of these old weapons back. And they are all updated Destiny 2 Standards, including new origin characteristics.
The reason for this change is the new Fireteam Power system, which Bungie also discussed in this blog post. Starting in The final form, the player with the highest power in the fireteam will boost all others to a power level just five power below his level. At Sunset, this would have allowed boosted players to bypass this mechanic entirely, which is why it was removed.
The studio also announced a number of practical power changes The final form on June 4, including account-wide power to help players with multiple characters level up faster and clearer indicators of how difficult an activity will be. For more information about these features, see Bungie’s weekly blog.
