Equip armor-piercing rounds to… damage vehicles?

Yesterday, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 got their latest patch. That Notes point out the usual optimizations and bug fixes one expects long-term live-service games, but a change in gun ammo has fans scratching their heads. Armor piercing ammo no longer seems to penetrate armor (see patch notes).

As expected, call of Duty has a lot of weapons for the players equip and customize. Sights, supplies, barrels, everything is there, including ammunition. Given that war zone In particular, players are often seen wearing armor and carrying armor-piercing ammo into the field has proven to be an excellent survival aid (especially in the DMZ). But based on the latest patch notes, the “damage multiplier against armored enemies” has been completely removed. Now such ammunition will only cause additional damage against vehicles.

Fans of the gritty war crimes simulator point out the obvious: It’s weird to remove a feature something is named after… and then keep the same name. “It’s just ammo now💀” commented one Redditor in a thread pointing out the unusual shuffling of ammo stats. As many point out, enjoying a damage bonus against armored enemies seemed like a fair trade for the gear slot the armor-piercing ammo was consuming. “If someone wants to use a mount for AP ammo, they should have more than a niche use for it.” read such a comment.

Others take the opportunity to joke about a mod that no longer does what its description says it does. “In the next update: High speed ammo now moves slower. Incendiary ammo now applies a freeze.” sniffed.

But it’s not all jokes. Some wonder how this affects the enemy AI, especially in the game’s new DMZ mode, where you’re sometimes up against a large number of very well armored AI. “Now the name is misleading, and with how many armored enemies DMZ throws at you, you’ll run out of ammo even faster.” commented one Redditor. “It should at least help you against armored DMZ AI opponents?” suggested another. “If [it] only helps with vehicles, then it shouldn’t have anything negative at all.”

my city has reached out to Activision for details on which game modes are affected by this change.

However, it’s not all negative changes in the latest update. Improvements have been made to ADS speed, recoil, and bullet spread on various weapons. And squashed a bunch of bugs in the UI, progression, and directional audio. Hopefully a sign of further improvements, navigation in the camo section has been improved, with new controller bumper navigation and a toggle to show/hide locked camos. Modern Warfare IImenu system from can be seriously confusing, and all the horizontal scrolling does not help. This is definitely a step in the right direction.
