The age gap between the oldest and youngest players in the NBA is such that someone who grew up playing the Super Nintendo can find themselves next to someone who grew up playing it Fourteen days.
I don’t have to tell you that, you can just look at the Wikipedia lists of “oldest NBA player“If it ever crosses your mind, however, this post isn’t about running your own trivia expeditions, but rather some public quotes that strongly emphasize that age gap.
Last week, 35-year veteran Mike Conley was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Speaking to the press after the move, Conley mentioned the much-vaunted youth of Minnesota’s roster (which is a bit of a myth among fans and the press, the Timberwolves are only the 12th youngest team in the NBA) and how 21-year-old Anthony Edwards asked him : “You play Call of Duty?”
Edwards, a 21st Century Kid, Plays Call of Duty & More much. The thing is, the show has been going on for so long that, yes, Mike Conley has played call of Duty. He played one much from call of Dutyto the point where he did entire interviews about like this one with Step into the fire in 2016:
Man, my history with Call of Duty goes way back, seriously, since about 2007. Modern Warfare, World At War, I mean, all of that got me hooked. My rookie year and I just got into the league I had a lot of free time and that was one of the things I started playing video games with and call of duty was one of my favorites and every game that comes out you get me and play it as much as I can before the season starts.
I think it’s because it’s competitive. It’s another way to keep your competitive juices flowing, and it’s something I enjoy doing. You get to the team deathmatch and you can have a bad game, you can’t find a way to help your team but you get to the next game and it’s like you’re the man and that feeling can carry over (in CoD or in the NBA). It’s easy to learn and you can learn your way through playing.

He even lists his all-time favorite (back then, anyway) as 2008’s Call of Duty: The World at War:
I would have to go back, was it World At War where the dogs attacked first? The one where you can send out dogs because you’ve had a certain kill streak and dogs can chase people around I thought was pretty cool. I’m a dog person and I love German Shepherds so it was cool to see them in game.
I just love that a 35-year-old man and a 21-year-old can become friends through the same video game series. It has to be great for team chemistry and a lot easier than playing for the Lakers where Lebron is so old he’s trying to get you playing Gold eye with him:
