Is the protagonist dead at the end? Reload Persona 3?
Yes. When the protagonist falls asleep on Aigis’ lap while all his friends rush to the roof of the school, he dies. This happens regardless of whether you select the “…” or “Close” option when the game tells you that your eyes feel heavy. The blue butterfly fluttering away is meant to symbolize the figure’s death at that moment.
OK, but how do we know? secure? Well, this answer comes – funnily enough – from the game’s Epilogue expansion called “The Answer”, which is part of Person 3 DO. This extension is not part of Reload Persona 3but it’s coming in September 2024 as Follow Aegis DLC.
In “The Answer” – and probably Follow Aegisbased on how faithful Reload is to Person 3 DO – You play as Aigis a few weeks after your graduation and the death of the leader character (which the game specifically hints at). If you look back at the final battle against Nyx, the protagonist uses the Universe Persona to perform the Great Seal ability. The cost of casting Greater Seal is equal to the leader’s maximum health, indicating that he gave his all to stop Nyx.
Death is one few a little more complex than that, but we’ll leave it up to you to find those answers Follow Aegis. Just trust that the leader is dead for now – unless Atlus makes an absolutely massive change to the story.
Can you save the leader? Reload Persona 3?
No, technically speaking. While you can choose to get the bad ending Reload Persona 3 and kill Ryoji in December, it’s safe to assume that everyone on Earth will die at some point in this reality – even if you never see it. So that everyone else can survive Reload Persona 3the leader must give up his own life to stop Nyx.
Sacrifice is part of the main story of Reload Persona 3, with many players losing loved ones to heroic moments of sacrifice. Yukari and Mitsuru’s fathers are both great examples of implementing this theming. By dying for his friends and the world, the protagonist completes the theme of sacrifice.
Enjoy the beautiful final moments of the game knowing that you didn’t do anything wrong here. You’ve found the good, albeit bittersweet, ending to the game.
