More than twenty years ago, Capcom developed an anatomical guide that is still relevant today when it comes to characters.

In accordance with Gamasutra, Capcom Artistic Director Toshiyuki Kamei discussed the guide at GDC in 2017. (Capcom Japan published online.)

Kamei said the guide started in the mid-1990s and was considered by a home painter at the time Akira Yasuda. It contains a detailed list of different muscles and shows how they work with bone structure.

Even though it was intended for the sprite construction, the script continues to inform and educate young Capcom artists so they can perform, for example, Street Fighter characters that look like this Street Fighter characters.

"This is a good old document," Kamei said. "But it's still very important to us."
