If, like me, you feel that life is far too short to spend it on important, complacent games (or people, for that matter), then I recommend 2020 mud life? Once an Epic Games Store exclusive, it made its way to Steam about a year later, where you could buy it for $15. But at the moment you can Get it for free (for a limited time) as part of a game promotion just announced sequel which, believe it or not, is titled mud life 2.
A funky, low-risk platformer that sees you hopping through a world ravaged by pollution and work-related alienation. mud life has you tagging various belongings while chatting with disaffected locals who bet on pessimistic readings of Nietzsche, are scared of pigeons, or genuinely impressed that a random woman has outright stolen a washing machine. Upon its release in 2020, it caused a bit of a stir in Australia, where it received an RC (Refused Classification) rating for its apparent lewdness, making it ineligible for release on Nintendo Switch in the region (you can buy it on Switch in other regions for the standard price of $15). Despite some potentially dizzying graphics with heavy aliasing, and one instance that I’m pretty sure is a depiction of self-harm (arguably much of the drug use in this game is potentially triggers for some as well, so be careful) . mud life is a cool, amusing take on how crappy it is to be alive in this world – a world barely held together by the coercive nature of economically coerced labor. What an escape!
