Corsair has issued a public apology after it was discovered last week that an “employee” was viewing portions of reviews of the latest RTX 4090 graphics card – created by both Gamer Nexus and Guru3D– “total nonsense”.
The drama happened last week when the hugely popular hardware channel Gamer Nexus published a review (and some benchmarks) of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition. This video states that plugging in only three of the card’s four cables (if for some reason your power supply only had room for three 8-pin connectors) would lock you to 100% performance, and that’s only if you all four would plug in. You are allowed to overclock the card. Guru3Ds Review says almost the same thing.
Not long after, Discord comments left by a Corsair employee went viral. They both called Gamer Nexus
QUESTION: Has anyone else seen the misinformation about the Sense pins and the 600w magic unlock from anyone other than GamersNexus and Guru3D, or is it just those two sites? I have to throw a few links to Nvidia to show them how confused users… and the press… are about their smart sense pins.
Total bullshit and they don’t even realize it. Yes. The adapter has two sensor wires. Yes. The card works with only one connected sensor cable. That’s because it’s a 450W card. It’s not because it has the ability to be “unlocked”, which requires the second sensor wire.
The map just doesn’t know. In that sense, it’s not intelligent. It just looks for a sense pin.
In a follow-up video Gamer Nexus addresses these “bullshit” claims:
While the employee’s comments weren’t exactly professional, a company rep talking shit about members of the media in private, we’d all bet, is nothing new. However, what prompted Corsair to publicly retract this case was the fact that…Gamer Nexus
Prompting Corsair to officially apologize on the company’s social media, going so far as to label the employee’s comments an “outbreak.”:
It’s come to our attention that a Corsair employee recently made inflammatory and false comments about Gamer’s Nexus and Guru3D’s understanding of the Nvidia RTX 4090 power connector.
These comments do not represent Corsair as a company and we regret both the form and content of the individual’s outburst.
We have been working with both Gamers Nexus and Guru3D for many years and we really appreciate both their professional demeanor and technical skills.
We apologize unreservedly for our employee’s inappropriate behavior and will take steps internally to remind our team of the high standards we hold of them when interacting with the media and end users.
For her part Gamer Nexus have accepted the apology and are ready to “move on”:
While Guru3Ds EIC Hilbert Hagedoorn says “Guys, it’s the internet; everyone has an opinion. He was wrong, he apologizes and for me that’s the end of this story.”
It’s very funny to me that these companies keeps shooting up Gamer Nexus if their videos turn out to be absolutely correct again and again! If you’re more tech-savvy and want a more detailed explanation of what exactly led to all this – it’s really a small detail in the larger scheme of things –The best run down I’ve found is here.
