As previously reported, DC Comics had not planned a presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con this year because, as DC boss James Gunn put it, he was too busy developing his new version of SupermanWe wondered if DC would find other ways to present some big reveals at the Expo, and sure enough, the “Jim Lee & Friends” panel debuted with the first teaser trailer for Creature Commandsthe animated Max series that will kick off Gunn’s new DC film and TV continuity. The series features another cast for Amanda Waller’s Suicide Squad – this time with an entirely non-human cast.
Apart from the fact that it might finally explain what is going on with Weasel, the strange guy with the big eyes whose voice and physical portrayal was taken over by Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn in the live-action film, The suicide squadIn the animated series, Viola Davis can be seen again in her role as Amanda Waller (previously seen in Peacemaker, Black Adamand both Suicide Squad films), along with other Peacemaker
The rest of the cast of the animated series includes Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Indira Varma as the Bride of Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic and Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky. Sean Gunn also voices GI Robot.
This is the beginning of an era that James Gunn will continue to “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters”,
Creature Commands follows a secret team of imprisoned monsters who are recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails… they’re your last and worst option.
