Kotaku game day bookKotaku game day bookThe latest thoughts from a Kotaku employee about a game we play.

Noctis empties his fifth elixir in as many minutes and gets up while Prompto, Gladio and Ignis groan on the floor. The Aramusha lurks quietly and waits. When Noctis stands, the monster gets ready, crouching, the bony hand on the hilt of his immensely long sword.

“Can’t take much more of it.” Noctis thinks to himself and looks beyond the Aramusha to the tomb she is guarding. He wonders if the royal arm, the weapons of his ancestors, is worth the beating it takes to reach it.

He weighs his mind a second too long. The Aramusha pulls his sword from its scabbard like a flash of light. When it pierces Noctis’ shoulder, his arm falls limp and useless.

“Yeah, definitely not worth it.”

I have just one day left complete Final Fantasy XV Before it leaves Xbox Game Pass and completes the Royal Arms collection, it’s now off the table. I hit my ass so hard it ran out of supplies of cures and replenishing it wiped out all my money because monsters didn’t give gil and I completed every quest the high profile picture guy had to give.

So I am broke once again. Yay!

Prompto, honey, where did you get the winter gear from? Which hobo did you murder for these boots?

I could have done a couple of hunts, but hunts take time, and time is a luxury that I lack when trying to finish the game and the remaining two character DLCs (Fire and Ardyn) this evening before 11:59 p.m. Despite being pressed for time, I am confident that I can complete my epic quest before the buzzer. Now my mind revolves around the question of whether it is worth buying the game right now to perhaps take another plunge into Aramusha, and what horrors await me in the Costlemark Tower and the optional Pitioss Ruins Dungeon. I still haven’t made up my mind, but the signs are pointing to yes.

Humbled by my failure, I decided to get out Final Fantasy XV right and in one of the character episodes. gladiolus was boring and Fire and Ardyn spoil the end and go Follow Prompto . Since Follow Gladiolus was so disappointingI had no expectations for Follow Prompto. But since I liked Prompto as a character at least more than Gladio, I thought I was leading soldiers through some possible sucker for him.

I didn’t have to worry.

There is a prompt in every friend group. They are the happy-go-happy, just happy to be here, limitless kind of optimism. (And if you don’t have one in your friend group, either you are the prompto yourself, or you need to get one as soon as possible – they’re great.) He’s the chocobros. photographer, take beautiful pictures and take frequent selfies.

Of course he is the most emotionally fragile member of the group; the happiest are almost always. Very late in the game (and seemingly out of nowhere) the game drops the bomb that Prompto isn’t your normal Lucian and is the result of the evil Nifelheim Empire’s experiments with cloning super soldiers. (Literally the act of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Cartoon.) Prompto was stolen from the lab that created him and raised by foster parents in Lucis, where he met and quickly made friends with Noctis. (You can check out the prequel anime to learn more about it.)

Promptly unsavory origin is the source of all his insecurities. “Do these people want me with them? Or do they secretly hate me because they know what I am? “These insecurities turn into self-contempt when Noctis attacks Prompto because of a dirty trick by Ardyn and separates from the group. This is how his side story begins.

From the beginning, Follow Prompto is leagues ahead Follow Gladiolus because Prompto brings weapons to knife combat. As everyone swings swords and hurls knives, Prompto decides they’re not with the bullshit and just rolls over with a gate to function. He’s the smartest motherfucker of the four.

Prompt shooting skills aren’t exactly revolutionary. It doesn’t feel very good; it’s actually a bit clunky, but because it’s a Final Fantasy The game – a series more known for its high imagination – is a refreshing change. Prompto can hold various types of weapons in addition to the standard revolver in which it is used FF15 Right, as well as grenades and a sword that he can handle up close and personal. It’s like when Solid Snake is in Eos and Final Fantasy suddenly turned in Metal Gear Solid– with as much emotion as a Metal Gear Solid Game can manifest.

That said, I wasn’t prepared for how deep I feel Follow Prompto would get. I certainly didn’t expect to identify with this wobbly, blond, white boy. But I often feel just like him. When I am my enthusiastic, sarcastic, random me, there is a darker thought in the back of my mind that asks, “Am I annoying? Am i too much “I wonder if my friends really like having me in their orbit, or if I’m just being tolerated.“ Am I really wanted here, or am I just moving here next to them, but not with them? ”As Noctis him Pushed off the train, it was confirmation for Prompto that “Oh, they really hate me,” and my heart broke for him.

While I understand why, I’m upset that this side story wasn’t entangled in the entire game. If you’ve seen struggled with the self-loathing prompt before, the moment it reveals its secret to the rest and they just wipe it off like, “Whatever, we love you, let’s go anyway.” “, A much stronger payoff. It’s a powerful moment undermined by the craziness with which these episodes were set in.

Tonight is officially my last game day. I will then finish the main game The fire episodes and Ardynand then i’m done. I will have done it. The monster is killed and the victory fanfare is played.

The Aramusha lets out a death scream as Noctis’ blade slips from her back. The monster falls and disintegrates into slowly crumbling red dust. Everyone collapses, crushed under the weight of their exhaustion and relief, the monster is finally gone. Prompto is tired too, but when he looks at his friends he understands what his purpose is. He cannot yet succumb to exhaustion.

Somehow Prompto reaches deep and drains the last bit of energy from him to jump in the air and sings for joy.

“Breath yes yes yes, spirit spirit, yes yes yes!”

Everyone laughs, the loads are lifted.
