I am an absolute fan of robberies. This is probably my favorite activity in Dungeons, to the point where even if the Dungeon Master doesn’t set my party up for a heist, I will orchestrate one. If you’re like me, you should definitely check out Key from the Golden Treasurywhich is currently available on Amazon Prime Day with 56% off.
Available for $21.99 (was $49.95), the collection includes 13 one-off adventures in which your party will each pull off (or at least attempt) a single heist. Each adventure has its own unique twist, but is connected by the secret organization “Golden Vault,” which hires you for each job.
The Key from the Golden Treasury One-shots are designed for four to six players, and the adventures are designed for characters levels 1 to 11. The book also includes cards for DMs and players that can make a big difference to your group if it decides to split up.
What does Key from the Golden Treasury What makes it such a great addition to your collection is that it provides a perfect entry point for D&D beginners without sacrificing the fun for more experienced players. When I played the “Reach for the Stars” one-shot (one of Polygon’s favorites from the collection), our group consisted of a mix of my regular party members and people who barely understood what D&D was before sitting down at the table. The Heist format made it especially easy for these newbies to jump right into the game, thanks to:
- Have a simple goal: search a house to find a book
- The way it corresponded with classic horror cliches: Do they break up? Do they stay together?)
- Players who already have an understanding of character archetypes they can play with, even without being familiar with D&D classes: Are you the muscleman? The unpredictable type? Or maybe someone who just likes to blow things up?
And from a purely logistical perspective, it’s much easier to plan sessions and swap players around based on availability when you have plenty of one-shot options at your fingertips.
So if you’re in the mood to pull off an elaborate heist and enjoy general mischief, you won’t find anything better than a D&D heist—except 13 D&D heists, of course.
