The only thing in between Dead CellsRecent expansion that gives me more pleasure than removing a large modified moldI am Half with a shy scythe of having my friend stop mushrooms pour themselves out of them and then explode.
In other words, I'm very happy Dead CellsThe new DLC, "Bad Seed." Today on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, switch, and PC, the $ 5 expansion brings some levels, monsters, and amazing developments. The castlegumi– a used, slightly older roguelite since its release in 2018.
Like the game's previous DLC, "Rise of the Giant," Bad Seed adds two new locations and a winner. The first of these, called the Arboretum, is a greenhouse filled with mutants dominated by mushrooms and Venus flytraps. It is located directly from the starting point and forms the basis for a new way to use the first third of the game. Unlike Toxic Sewers or the Promenade, its rooms are large and overrun by a vicious mix of zombies, grenadiers and new enemy types. Mushroom men will throw you into the nearest wall of spikes, and tortoises that can crawl on their way will automatically hurt you every time you accidentally hit them from behind.
The Arboretum leads to the Swamp, a network full of long-range missiles that puts you in the fight against the dual threat of firing shooters and semi-automatic sword convertersck in pairs. Cannibals and Cleavers also show up in high flats, making it one of the hardest to survive in the beginning of the game. In the meantime, the bridges linking each house are guarded by ticks installed which is very difficult to avoid but they do not deal much damage in case their combos are caught. Wolf traps and muscle spells do a short job with them, but using them with a bow and melee weapon requires focus and patience.
All of this eventually leads to the main attraction: Mama Tick. He has a nice personality, but he spends most of his time underwater attacking you with his legs, which have simply been shot from an area as large as serrated, serated vines. While easy enough to hurt when he comes up with air, Mother Tick's attack mode is one of the game's most challenging parts. Hitting him is not kingIt's difficult, especially for players with experience in game development that are largely unlocked, but it's a refreshing twist to take on some beginner bosses.
What does Dead Cells it's fun to pick and play itfun fights, straight fights. Every timely dodge or final hit is announced in a stunning way by a combination of visual and emotional success. Why it is worth it to come back again and again, even within a year and a half since its release, is the variety. Bad Seed helps build on both of these things.
Screw, the game's first weapon to replace both melee, breaks through a converging browser with a satisfying "swoosh". The new skill, a small mushroom sidekick that follows you around your enemies and explodes in command, comes with a kind of pop recovery that makes you feel weighty and enjoyable to use even after spending them in a row.
There's also a Bouzouki that lets you kill a mustard, beating enemies to death with melodic anger. As the best parts of the basic game, Bad Seed has inspired me to always stop thinking about what will make my character stronger, and instead think about which attacker will let me navigate its tricky gauntlet in unique and beautiful ways.
One of the game's designers at Twin Motion, Sebastian Benard, is named Dead CellsThe first DLC was a "love letter to the public" on interview with IGN last March. Bad Seed feels like another. The only difference is that in this case it comes with a $ 5 price tag, which sounds a little questionable considering the continued performance improvements (now playing almost unchanged in Switch) and the balance of the game (the first parts are now less punitive) that Dead Cells received since its first release.
In KotakuS the first update, Kirk Hamilton was attracted to the core of the game and hopefully Twin Motion will continue to add to it. With Bad Seeds, the studio continues to make good on that promise, the building Dead Cells onto one of the best roguelikes in recent memory.
