destiny 217th season, Season of the Hauntedis the next adventure from Guardians, Bungie revealed Monday night. Season 17 takes players back to the Leviathan, a massive, planet-eating ship that has been the site of much of its past activity. Guardians also get the Solar 3.0 subclass rework, a new dungeon (a separate purchase from the season), and a bunch of new loot.
In front Beyond the Light, the Leviathan and its possessor, Emperor Calus of the Cabal, fled orbit from Nessus and our solar system. Now the ship has returned, found its home on the moon, and embraced some of its nightmares. Players board the ship to figure out what’s going wrong, wield a powerful scythe, and become “the Reaper.”
The new season offers two activities. The first is Nightmare Containment, a free public event for all players taking place on The Leviathan – likely in a free roam area similar to the game’s other location based on some image titles. Sever is only available during the paid season and takes place in the underbelly of The Leviathan and some of the legacy raid arenas. Players must remove the Nightmares from Calus’ control and find out what he’s up to.
In terms of loot, the Trespasser Exotic Arc sidearm has returned from the original determination, and is from the Season Pass track. There are also four new seasonal weapons (including what appears to be a Stasis tracer gun) and four weapons returning from the Season of Opulence Menagerie activity.
Season of the Haunted will also feature some event upgrades. Trials of Osiris will receive new loot and Iron Banner will receive a major overhaul – including the return of the Rift game mode, which is similar to Capture the Flag. Finally, the Summer Solstice Event is also getting some quality of life improvements with the new event card system.
Season of the Haunted begins May 24th — just hours after this trailer debuted — and runs through August 23rd.
